Hi guys, My automatic transmission seems to be playing up a bit. When it changes gear from 1st to 2nd it revs to about 3500 then feels like it slips in when changing but that doesn't happen all the time sometimes it changes fine. Also it just slips sometimes when i give it some gas.

Is the transmission on the way out or can it be easily repaired?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Check for correct trans fluid level - if low it could cause your problem. Also check fluid colour which should be reddish...not brown/black. Next step is a service...keep your fingers crossed. Good Luck.

Sounds like possibly the belts are worn and slip under load? As suggested check everything else first, but if it's slipping and all those things are fine, you may be up for a rebuild :( Not cheap.

If changing those things does fix it, perhaps invest in a trans cooler or something of the sort afterward also. Preventative maintenance may save you $1000+ in the long term ;) Personally I'd be getting one right after the box was rebuilt if it had to be done, too.

EDIT: What sort of box is it? Your ride is a VH wagon, but this is posted in the VR-VS section. On the off chance its the 4sp 4L60E auto box, get a trans cooler. Heat in auto transmission = GHEYY.

Thanks guys, nah i have a VR Exec. I still have a VH though but im asking about the VR tranny. Me and my dad were thinking of just running this one till it completely goes then just get a low km one from the wreckers and put it in.

Fair enough, only quirk I'd have with that idea is that the 4L60E is a terrible auto box when under strain, they commit suicide as soon as they take any heat. Taking one from a wreckers might do you worse than you expect.

If it would only be used for cruising then swapping for one from the wreckers might be ok, but personally I don't think I'd do it. Better off rebuilding/strengthening the one youve got and paying more than replacing it with another box that will fail as well.
