I've driven automatic cars for maybe a total of 20 minutes in my entire life ;).

Learned to drive in a manual VN stationwagon... Work cars have been 5 speed JE Camira, 5 speed VS wagon and now 5 speed Hyundai Getz, as well as my own car - VN exec 5 speed manual ;).

A lady I work with just bought a new Mazda 6, the luxury model with the tiptronic shift. I got confused with it, I was fine changing from 1st to 2nd but going from 2nd to 3rd I had a bad habit of pushing it the wrong direction ;). Oh, and I'm proud to say, I can do smoother gear shifts than the auto box in that Mazda ;).

  4. My Vee Pee is the 1st car I have owned, and not ripped the auto trany out, and given it to someone I don't like.....lol...I have always been a Manual Driver.....I use my Auto like a Manual a fair bit......just can't help myself...I like changing gears........

haha, i nearly put a hole in the floor of my VK looking for the clutch. I swear by manuals, the Wagon will be getting changed later, and the VL my sister drives, so i never have to use it!

untill i sit the practical in a manual i legally cant drive them. though once i did drive for about 20min in a hilux [stalled twice in car park and though a little slow, was fine o nthe road] was follwed by a cop cr for a bit too lol. until i get the feel for manuals im sticking by autos. slower and/or rougher fitting or not im a very lazy person.

    Mainly Bought by Fleets!

It is true that there are not many manual Commodores around. That is because most buyers are fleets, looking at the lowest common denominator for drivers and price. Everyone can drive an auto, some cannot or will not drive a manual.

Thus overall for the VS, about 95% sold were slush boxes.

However, for the 20 to 30% private sales (my guess) probably about 1 in 5 would be for a manual.

The V6 and V8 engines are great with a manual gearbox. Intend to drive manuals until I can't drive anymore.

Those who buy autos are probably not as passionate about the transmission as dedicated manual drivers.

I learnt to drive in a manual...but in the cars I have owned, I have switched back and forth from manual to auto...

Manual's are fun to drive, especially on twisting roads...but they are a pain in bumper to bumper daily traffic...

Auto's are kinder on the driveline, make you use more fuel, but really suck when you leave your lights on and cant start because of a dead battery...

I got the headlight prob covered now with the auto off on the Calais so I guess a conversion to a full manual auto would make it the best trans I've owned...

i learnt to drive in manuals but my car, which is my first car is a VR2 Acclaim so its an automatic. its the first auto i have driven also. i was going to get a manual because i love that but where i live, every car i looked at was a auto. the only manuals we found were some piss ant 92 hatchback or something like that
