Hi, im betting this gets asked all the time here i looked for a present thread but couldnt find one, soz if im askin in the wrong spot. But i was wonderin if anyone knows how much it might cozt me to have a 1993 VR Acclaim 3.8V6 Auto converted to a manual? Id probs have it done by a transmission specialist.

I dont actually have the car yet, its my siters and she's gona be selling it soonish, I love the car, she's getting a bit tired,it desperatley needs a coat of paint and a few other nigly things fixed but the engines still pretty good. I wana fix her up and give her a new life :)

im no mechanic but from my own experience gearboxes are a pain in the ass, if you can source a cheap box, pedal box and everything else( loom etc) and have a mechanically minded friend you should get away with a conversion under $1000 depending on box etc. T5 is prolly the cheapest box you will find...i personally dont like them but they seem to do the job if not thrashed
Things to consider:
Tailshaft, gearbox&mount&cross member, clutch cable/hydraulics, clutch&flywheel, spiggot bearing, throwout bearing, throwout fork, pedal assembly, wiring loom, memcal??(not sure), centre console

sorry if i missed something out ><

shop around too mate, you might find a manual VR in better condition for around the same price :)

My conversion kit cost me $900, but there were still some extra bits I had to get to finish it off. I'd hate to think what a mechanic would charge to fit it though.

cheers, thanks guys. id probably end up giving her 2000 for it, probably more than its worth but its got meaning to me.

My sister was gona look into the cash for clunkers thing or whatever it was, (government gives her 2000 for a car pre 1995 to go towards a new car with a green car rating). they crush the cars and i dont want that to happen so id have to give her the same for it.

The VR does have extractors/sports exhaust system, the holden sports suspension and limited edition mags that alone would probs add to at least a grand i thought and its charcoal in colour which seems kinda rare
