Hey all , my ve series 2 has just clocked up 109xxx kays so have decided to get the auto trans serviced. I was quoted $200 by my local mechanic, does this sound about right ? Thanks in advance.

Sounds cheap to me tbh. $145 labour oil is close to 4l I think and should be full syn but I think some companies list semi syn so semi is about $20 a liter and filter kit retails over $50 from memory I would have to check repco.

But at work we would do it cheaper with the service I think we do auto trans service for $250 with the service.

Yeah I asked the mechanic when I got the last service about the sealed for life crap, and he recommended getting it serviced, $200 now could possibly save you thousands later on.

You make me feel guilty,

As my has clocked up 178,500 k's, and I haven't done mine since I had it from 17,000 k's,
Where is doesn't get thrashed, nor doesn't it get driven hard, however, its driven how a V8 needs to be driven,
And is still as smooth a silk to drive, still VERY economical, and changes beautifully,
I would be more worried it would alter the shift changes from great to bad.

Every lubricated component runs perfectly until it doesn’t, and then in most cases it’s too late to service it.

If you’re waiting for a sign to have your trans serviced, why don’t you use the same theory for your engine?

The 5L40E auto transmission in my VE SV6 lasted over 300,000km on the factory fill before it started having issues. I would say its definitely advisable to service it probably every 100,000kms but from my experience it’s not the end of the world if you don’t as they seem to be pretty solidly build (well the 5L40E in mine was anyway).

Also the only issues that mine is having is related to the control solenoids not functioning properly (no slipping) so when I get around to changing out the control solenoids (which only cost about 200 bucks or so) it will probably be good for another 100-200 thousand kms.
