Auto transmission fluid

Hi everyone, just wondering when I should be thinking about a transmission oil change on my VF2 ssv. I am not sure whether Holden do this on one of the scheduled services or whether it is something I need to follow up on. My car has only done 30,000ks so it shouldn't be necessary yet. If Holden include this in one of their services, is that enough or do some people
take they car to a specialist auto place for additional service. (I am not mechanically minded and wouldn't be able to do a service myself)

You will find Holden do this as part of the logbook servicing, once it reaches their amount of km. Trouble is Holden tend to push out servicing. IMHO I'd be having it done at 65-75k. Either a dealer or decent trans place will be able to do the job right.

My 10 year old VE has only done 41,000 kms and just as a matter of interest I had a mechanic who does autos drive it the other day.
First thing he ask me was what did think might be wrong with it?
I suggested it seemed okay but was just wondering and as I’m not a mean old bugger I’d be happy to have it done.
He said it’s perfect. Come and see me when it’s 20 years old, and by the way that’s a very nice Commodore and it goes well.

Yepp like I said they push out servicing too far, even with full syn fluid. My trans bloke who is an ace at what he does says, 65-70k with the new syn fluids. We did the wife's car at around 75k. Oil was still pretty ok but certainly wouldn't wait as long as the logbook says. But hey I just take the word of the trans tech and not the manufacturer's recommendations, as we know what servicing schedules are like on modern cars and the problems it eventually causes. Call me anal but I'd rather be safe, even if it does cost a little more in the short-term. Good clean fluid is the life-blood of an auto. No way I'd be waiting 150k to have it replaced.

You will probably find they tell you to replace spark plugs at 90k as well, which again I think is too long.

Do you know what the elapsed-time alternative is on that?
The intervals are 12.5k kms or 9 months aren't they, so from an elapsed-time POV that … what, 9 years if I've calculated it out correctly?

Ours will have done about 50k kms by 9 years.
I'd certainly want to change the 'box fluid before 20yrs …

Big diff 41k and 150k. The full syn fluid lasts a lot longer than the earlier gear. Probably right that you can push it to 80k, when he says to come back but double that.... I doubt it.

Hi Losh, I intend to give it to an auto place regardless in the next couple of years. To me that makes sense.
