I wasn’t spinning wheels so doubt i was hitting the limiter. I’ll go for another drive and pay more attention to the revs at the time of the pause. Maybe I can get a better idea what’s occurring.

In any case, having this happen in a GM L3 certified vehicle is a real disappointment. Now i’m of the opinion GM L3 is marketing fluff.

They said it comes from Holden spare parts, which I have found out is actually http://www.holdenrestorationparts.com.au/HoldenRestorationParts/index.html. Or rare spares.

In terms of warranty for the transmission it is 2 years /50k kms just on that, whole car still has 2 years (nov 2019) of new car warranty left. Install is same as above.

It's still a recode box whoever does the work..

A new car with new gearbox has anywhere from 3 years to 7 years warranty while a recoed box has a 2 year warranty.
So one way to look at it is that whoever recos the box has less trust in the unit than Holden does with a new unit.

I wonder what Holden would do if some vehicle with a 7 year warranty suffered such a fault at one year old. Would they provide a recoed box with a six year waranty? I'd want the box waranted for 7 years in such a case o_O

@Juicifruitz how's the car been over the last four days? Driving as new i trust :)

Just for perspective, mass produced component failure frequency occurs like a bathtub curve - either pretty soon after initial use else ‘n’ number of km of use. The ‘n’ defined as its lifetime is the wear limit of minimum (usage) time before failure (MTBF) for engine and its transmission, measured in a personal car by km travelled, not whether it’s been sitting around serviced properly for seven years.
The warranty could just as well be 10 or 20 years, but the main thing with the drivetrain is still km travelled, then servicing neglect / misuse per intended operation.
In that regard it has always been 100k miles expected life of car in the US and some G8s had that as factory warranty (175k km).
In Australia the Consumer Law assumes a reasonable life, doesn’t matter about timeframe. MTBF and service schedule is well documented in the owners manual and borne out nearly 1/3 million vehicles over a decade of daily operation. It is clear that which needs to be serviced and replaced within 175k km, and that doesn’t even need to be performed as a dealer service, repairs and servicing does need to be performed by an appropriate person. Assume licensed mechanic.
Point is the extent of warranty for driveline is as it always has been, measured in km, serviced properly, over a reasonable timeframe.
Personally I did the 175k km in under three years so timeframe didn’t matter, but whether you bargained a three, five, or seven year period is practically next to irrelevant in mechanical terms. I’d need to read the updated warranty more closely but the peace of mind is for trim bits and paraphernalia outside the consumable, properly serviced stuff.
In other words if a part fails within 175k km it would be replaced under the Consumer Guarantee anyway.
I think too much emphasis and panic surrounds the so-called warranty period. Look it up, most stuff is warranted for a reasonably expected lifetime, just how long that is may be 10, 20 years perhaps longer for some parts.
But there’s no circumventing driveline MTBF.
EDIT: Worth noting that is the rort behind the “lifetime unlimited km” warranty promotions. No manufacturer offers more than 180k km, the Hyundai / KIA “unlimited” warranty criteria specifies reasonable low utilisation limitations between service intervals. So is indeed limited to personal use up the shops or occasional trips away, not commercial use. If the utilisation rate is above a certain limit then is deemed commercial use, 130k warranty applies! Except commercial vehicles of course, then unlimited means the limit is extended to 160k km!!
Ergo a Commie is still a top choice for high utilisation / commercial vehicle. Never thought it was intended to be a garage Queen.

Yep, i don't disagre with what you say and ACL is the best underlying protection available for consumers. One just need to excersice the law when they have issues.

However, a manufacturers warranty just makes it a little simpler to get things fix, in theory, if not for the incompetance of many service departments that don't know what they are doing and can't fault find.

But the best protection is knowledge. Sadly knowledge is being stripped from the public consciousness as information is stipped from the public consciousness. Workshop manuals, TSB's, recall info were in earlier days accessable but have now been removed. As iv'e mentioned in otehr threads, the old DOTARS recall info has been replaced with ACCC recall info which is simply fluff.

I'd rather see manufacturers forced to list MTBF figures for major components and MTBF for the overall vehicle, rather than just listing a warranty period. This would be a much stonger indicator of build and design quality while a long warranty could simply mean that a vehicle is very over priced and the manufacturer has factored losts or warranty work to cover the expected problems.

Commodores may be solid according to some but by 3 months and some 680kms in my MSE, i've got clunks on right turns, squeeks around the dash top (windscreen?), whistle noise fron teh drivers door, occassional gearbox thumps when puttting it into drive, and other issues. Guess you get the jist.

In my case, MTBF seems to be 680kms which is just unacceptable in anyones book. OK, the problems may not be serious, though i'm concerned about the box and windscreen, but it's a new car and shouldn't have any issues whatsoever. It simply dosn't bode well with me :(

Hope that @Juicifruitz's issue is fully resolved and he wont have a recurrence of the problem.

Haha failure is non-functional, squeaks clunks and bumps are inevitable, the bane of my driving life too.
I hunt the bastard down myself and usually by the time I’ve nailed it too easy to grease or pad out or tie up.
I also have dozens of videos where I can hear a noise, play it back and nobody else can, subject of much merriment in my family!
People generalise about previous models being noisier blah blah but NVH well sorted in a car of any age is a fine thing.
Of course joins shift with use, just do it quietly, I agree. About 1/4 of my driving is in new model hire cars, they all have stuff I would find unacceptable in my old VE station wagon.

Don't know that i'd agree a clunk when turning right or when selecting drive is non functional. Maybe it's a precursor to something breaking or falling off, so it's a concern and will be checked out. And i can't agree that squeeks and rattles should be inevetable in a brand new vehcile with <<1000kms on it.

I can agree that it's frustrating people (especially trained service personel) seem to have selective hearing and are deaf to the squeeks and rattles i find rather anoying.

It's also sad that my MSE has more noise that my 5yo Huyndai i30 that's been hit in the back (professionally repaired) and hit in the front by someone reversing into it (repaired by me). So i have a $70K MSE with squeeks and rattles verses a quieter 5 yo i30 which cost <$20 when new... It's nuts...

I get your point, and recognise the clunk into drive is just an adjustment, but what did Holden say about the noise turning right? I’ve read something on Chevy SS forum about the US passenger side (our driver) “creaks”, seems to be something worth pointing out.
You can book your car in anytime to get the rattles and creaks sorted, just saying dri-lube, pushbike inner tube, some fluted card and zip ties are handy otherwise.
BTW price you paid or didn’t pay or are gonna pay has nothing to do with the problem, things need adjustment as they settle in.

I've currently an issue with the dealer who doesn't like to carry a cost for their stuff ups so i've lost faith in them and think i need to find another dealer. As such, I haven't taken the MSE to have the right turn clunk and drive clunk sorted as I hardly drive it at the moment. I'll post what the outcome is when i do take it in.Any links you can provide to the Chevy SS thread could be helpfuul as it seems raedingthese forums, the dealer service department needs a helping hand
On my and other friends out of warranty vehicles, i've fixed many odd noises and returned them to an as new 'squeekless" state. I just don't feel like doing that with such a new machine but i also don't like going to the dealer all the time so my list of issues is growing ;)
True in a general sence but my i30 didn't have such settling in issues o_O Having said that and jinxed myself, i'll hit a bump and the i30 front will fall off

    It’s a September 2017 built MSE.

Maybe a Monday built vehicle or simply getting close to factory shutdown where workers care much less about what they are doing and quality slips.

Yeah, i know what the LE build number is but i don't really want to provide such identifiable info just in case i end up in a bun fight with the Dealer/Holden.

The business I work with sells heavy duty construction equipment, i.e. yellow goods such as wheel loaders, excavators, articulated dump trucks etc as well as on road and off road prime movers.

Any defect rectification work undertaken during the warranty period is warranted for the remainder of the original warranty period.

This also applies to spare parts purchased by a customer that have a defect and are replaced under their applicable warranty.

So applying this principal to your scenario, the box replaced at the end of year 1 would be warranted for the next 6 years, being to expiry of the original 7 year warranty period. If it cacked itself at say year 3, the replacement under warranty would be warranted for the remaining 4 years. Cacked itself at say 6 yrs and 11 months, then you would get 1 month warranty from the manufacturer.

This can obviously be blurred late in the 7 year warranty period when the manufacturer (or their dealer) is outsourcing the warranty work as is the case with the Holden box with the sub-contractor providing their own separate warranty, in this case 2 yrs.

Of course this doesn't stop purchasers trying to contract us into warranty rectification work for a period equivalent to the original warranty period, but starting from the completion of the rectification work. Again using your scenario as an example, this would mean the customer has a defect rectified at say year 6 and expects another 7 years warranty on that rectification. This is what we call warranty on warranty which simply won't fly.

In my experience, many other goods apply the same principal.

Best to check the wording of Holden's warranty doc to see if it contemplates this scenario. If not, contact HCC on live chat and get their response in writing.

Nothing secret, just don’t feel providing identifiable info is needed.

Why do you feel it is important to know such detail?
