    Hi guys,

First let me start by explaining that I only bought my VS a few weeks ago and I've never owned an automatic vehicle before...

Couple of issues I'm having (maybe) is that the gearbox seems to be VERY slow in shifting... it takes a good 5 or so seconds to go from neutral and into gear, it also seems to 'forget' to shift, meaning I end up red lining and staying there if I'm giving it a bit and I have to back off for it to shift.

I havn't had time to work out exactly whats been done to the car, it seems to have been very loved in its previous life and its in really nice condition... The previous owner tells me (Not what convinced me to buy it though) that it has a 'HSV chip' (Do these even exist? I can't find any evidence either way), a chev servo in the box and a few other nice features.

Is this normal? Am I just not use to an auto box or does it need attention?

Not normal... Its been a long time since ive driven a auto commodore, but the shift should be pretty quick.

Have you had a commodore before?

As for the HSV chips, they do exist. Basically the (HSV) engines are tuned more towards power than economy. Id say 80% of commodores purchased would be from drivers who have no interest in power, but rather economy and smoothness. Its the same as having your memcal reprogrammed (talk to Dr bob on these forums). It does make the car more responsive and more power.

Back on topic, when was it last serviced? Have you checked things like fluid levels etc?

    Try checking for error codes....

Is it whens the cars cold, or just randomly

Havn't owned a commodore before sorry to say (Always loved them but unfortunately Holden don't make a great 4WD which is what I do the most)

I'm not sure on the last service of the box, I'll be doing one this weekend coming... I havn't had a decent chance to check the fluid levels (unfortunately I work some odd hours) and the only weekend I've actually had the car (Some doofus ran up my backside a few days after I bought it) I had to replace the diff on my Patrol.

i noticed my gear stick getting a wabble and also the shifts not being so tight. But an extra 900ml of tranny fluid fixed that!!!

Was very low, but that was my fault, did some work a while back and obviously didnt top up the tranny
