The auto transmission stops working when it gets hot. Engine still runs properly. After 3 kms from cold start car just goes into neutral when stopped at set of lights.
Has anyone heard of this problem as nothing is coming up on the dash.
Once it cools down it goes again, but only for about 3kms or until it gets hot

May not be of any help but try changing F9 TCM fuse in engine bay black box.

no, it hasn't been serviced
I'm wondering if the auto has a sensor that it might be that
You should try changing the oil at a minimum, maybe look at getting a trans cooler in conjunction.

Sensor issue will be a bandaid fix (if it works) without basic maintenance like fresh transmission oil, it failing when it's hot is a pretty good sign of transmission fluid that's far past the point of no return. The long term condition of the bands will rely on maintenance given the reliability of the 5 speed is apparently not that great.

I talked to the local guy (central coast auto transmissions) he said the torque converter has broken up and is clocking the filter and stops the pump and when you turn it off the crap falls back into the sump and off you go again (it took three goes, to get it to his shop tonight. Just turn the car off, for one minute, then off you go) they will have a look tomorrow
