Hi guys, done an error code check recently and had these two pop up. With my little knowledge I believe both of these are related to the transmission. Does anybody have any tips and tricks for replacing these and can anybody help with where they are and that sort of thing? Also will I need more trans fluid and treatment, if so what do you recommend? Frogsta Edit; I thought I should elaborate, the parts are Vehicle Speed Sensor and Pressure Control Solenoid. 4L60e trans btw
I can help with the vss get a new one or second hand one you will find it attached to your gearbox when you remove the old one make sure that the cogs on the new one are the same if they aren't you will have to put the old ones on the new sensor otherwise you might get false readings
the 4l60e doesn't use a cog, the (can't think of it's proper name) sender is pressed onto the output shaft (is not supposed to be removed) and the vss is just a magnetic pickup, this is at the rear of the transmission in the extension housing, held in with 1 bolt (and a flat piece of metal). the pressure control solenoid is in the valve body (remove pan and filter) on the same side as the 1-2 & 2-3 shift solenoids, also held in with a bolt and retainer clip. just wondering why you think these things are your problem? what is the issue? fault codes?
Fault codes gave VSS and PCS, as well as TPS and MAF Sensor. Replaced TPS and IAC while at it, cleaned the MAF (yet to check codes again) My auto shift is sometimes quite harsh, and sometimes quite slippy (i.e won't change to 3rd properly holding 2nd to 80, just revs) My speedo is fine but sometimes doesn't pick up until I get to 20km/h. I'm getting 15L/100km but I think I have a vac leak somewhere, no bloody idea where though but I haven't followed the vac lines from TB and plenum or checked for perished ones
Well the solenoid seems to be internal. Im sure someone on here will be able to tell you which one it is exactly. Try a trans service and flush. Might help
It was serviced + flushed about 2 months ago, first thing I did and the guy checked codes as well which are the ones above. It helped a little in the gears but still has the harsh one every now and then. I can probably do the VSS myself then, may as well get the PCS done when he does my diff + gears Cheers for the help. Where abouts is this extension housing? Near the diff end of trans? And any particular side or anything?
If i remember correctly it will be on the passenger side of the trans. In the section that the drive shaft fits into
it's pretty easy to replace, removing the pan and draining trans is all that's needed, be careful unplugging the loom plugs as they become brittle with age, just messy playing in trans fluid (but beats 80/90 g/box diff oil) would've linked this earlier but haven't been near a pc, damn impossible working out what attachment is what on a phone... this is the earlier VR trans valve body but it's identical to vs except the vs will have 1 extra solenoid populating the top left of the pic (opposite pressure control solenoid) for tcc pwm control
I'm not too car savvy and trans is definitely something I don't want to stuff with. Will get the parts and get the machanic to install them. He quoted $350 to fit diff and new oil, is this okay? Also I've read that an LSD for VS will bolt straight in (currently open centre) can anybody confirm
