Interesting, after seeing a VZ Holden SS Ute versus a VT SS 5.7L go down the 1/4, and the VT beating this VZ every time, no matter if it was from standing still take off, or a 20kph. The VT would win every time.
Now the VT is has an Auto transmission and the VZ has the 6 speed gearbox.
Now this is the reason why they did a 20kph rolling start as the dude in the VZ said he couldn't get proper take off. But still the VT shot off like nothing else.
Yes the VZ was catching in the end, but too late. The VT already crossed the finish line.

So to the conclusion of this event, which is better now? Manual or Auto gearboxes?

i would preffer a 6 speed manual over a 4 speed auto just because there ios more selection for the right gears at different speeds..... auto's have a little bit of lag after they change gears when stock with a little work they haul so much better than a manual...

    Manuals are much more fun.

More reliable and cheaper to fix too.

It really depends on the driving...

Drag racing - tricked up auto - more consistent gear changes

Race track - manual - more choice of gears for corners + like to feel the tires limits directly through the accelerator.

Suburban traffic - auto - I hate pumping a heavy clutch in peak hour stop start traffic

Everyday use - auto - they just let you relax more...

I've owned both manuals and auto's... manuals can be more fun to drive but they do get monotonous in traffic...

So I say auto for now...till I get bored and want something to do with my other foot.

this dosnt really prove anything, first of all one is a ute one is a sedan, 2nd one is a vt one is a vz, & 2 different drivers, how can you say one is better than the other?

    I'm about 6'4 1/2 and I haven't got much room.

As of right now, I would rather have an auto clubby as opposed to a manual.

And I drive my auto, I use the bottom 3 gears (2nd when taking off, into third once i hit 70kms, then into drive to cruise.)

If I'm on the freeway, I use 3rd to accelerate quickly to change lanes.

So for me it would be Auto. And I have already destroyed 2 nay sayers.

Well that's why they did a rolling start, every time the VT which is an auto just shot off leaving the VZ behind.

It's a well known thing that autos will out do manuals in a drag race. Considering the VZs are 245KW and the utes are about 100kg lighter then the VTs. This just proved it.

I agree with when it comes to racing cars around the track, yes that's when you need your manual. Or unless you have a top fueler dragster that's pumping out 3000hp and the auto gearboxes can't handle the power so they have to resort to manual gearboxes.

I've seen at Willowbank a VYII SS Ute dust a stock VTII SS.
The guy in the VZ might just need a little more practice or something i don't know!

I'm with Sixshooter on this one though!
My auto is shift-kitted so i love it!

    But manuals are fun too!!!!

You need to know how to drive a manual to run a good time. The current BOTS and BOSS records are held by manual equipted LS1's.
With regards to the above cars either the VT is modified in some way or the guy driving the VZ is trying to take off in 4th:p

I own a Auto (Cause the missus can't drive a stick), but I'd love to get a 6 Spd Manual. Manual Rocks!
