Hi guys/girls,
Thought this would be the best place for this as there is not dedicated section for vehicle interior cleaning/repairs.

Was cleaning the leather in the G6ET this afternoon with the good stuff from Duragloss (leather shampoo and conditioner)
While it did a fantastic job of cleaning the light coloured leather, it highlighted and showed (alot of) a previous repair to the leather on the seat...

Have used AutoGlym and other such products to clean it before today, and haven't had an issue. Perhaps its just how good the DuraGloss stuff is. No other issues or stuff on any other parts of the same seat.

It appears that prior to me owing this car, the leather was "repainted" or "touched up".
Its only on the one panel, on the one seat.
Since owning the car, That particular part of the seat has always looked "off colour", now I know why...
I always dismissed it as a high traffic area part of the seat, so it was ok for it to look sightly dirty/off colour.

Pictures are below of what I'm talking about. The finish on the repair is just lifting off now, no matter what I do to the seat now.

What are my options to repair this? can it be repainted again? Cut it out and have it replaced? (I'm leaning towards this one)
Any suggestions and referrals are much appreciated.
I'm in Melbourne, SE suburbs if anyone knows of a good place/person to take the car to.

Pics:

This one shows the two "lines" in the leather that are/were covered by repair.

tbh id probably go ask an auto upholsterer what they would do with it.
possibly it could be sew in a new panel or maybe a new base etc.
if its a common colour they should have no issue replicating it, or even still they should be able to match it all up.

or maybe go to your ford dealer and see if they have replacement parts for it and get a quote on that.
possibly a part they spare of and you can get someone or yourself to put on.

don't know of any in the SE area though

Yeah, I've got the car with me Monday and hopefully Tuesday to drive around and to pretend to be "working"
hoping to get a few quotes, some of the SE Vic boys have given me a few places to get started.
I'm leaning towards having it replaced, don't want it happening again.

Ford will just charge me an arm a leg, and a toaster to get it repaired. And they'll just farm it out to the local guy who does upholstery.

There are a couple of different ways that can be repaired, rather than patched or replaced.

There are some DIY options, with limited quality, but I would suggest seeking a quality leather repairer - not necessarily specifically automotive. I don't have any contacts in that field in melbourne, only a guy up here in sydney who I know and put jobs like that through - but I'm sure they're around

TinSnips,
Thanks for your advice. Much appreciated.

Have found its quite hard to match the factory Ford cream leather....
Most likely will just have it redyed again.
Waiting on a quote from a local guy who was recommended to me.

I'd imagine it would be tricky for an upholsterer to match the leather, mainly because factory leather is generally crap compared to what they work with, so matching textures and colours can be an issue when patching. But The dyes are usually fairly accessible, at least that's what I understood from chatting with upholsterers as well as leather refurb specialists up here.
