Here is an odd car that GM made called the Corvair. Don Yenko modified a few before messing around with the Camaro (Yenko SC Camaro), called the Stinger. The car was Ralph Nader (Green Party) punching bag that he named it Unsafe at any speed. Perhaps, first and last with a Boxter 6 Cylinder, Air Cooled, Rear Engine car (Pontiac Fiero was mid engine). Came on many flavors (trucks, vans, wagons) and the Corsa was Turbo. Just a bit of info for the people that does not know, enjoy....
In the early 70s these cars were reaching the 200 mph mark. Since they competed on stock form, their designs reacted badly to aerodynamics. Chrysler placed a nose and a huge tail (for the trunk/boot to open) on their Chargers and called it the Daytona/Super Bird. Ford, fought back with their version of the Torino called the Talladega (the fastest Speedway in NASCAR). People confuses them with the Aussie Ford Falcon, but they are 2 different designs, they are just similar.
Here is some interesting... The US Army created this vehicle called the Overland Train. Designed to pretty much go over any type of terrain. Look carefully at the wheels. Most people know Bigfoot the Ford Monster Truck, right? Got its first Oversize Wheels from there. Back then, nobody made them that big (ok, maybe, open mine dump trucks).
