has anyone put a smaller cam into their VF?

Have been looking at the VCM E5, as it retains a almost stock idle (has a 118 LSA)

I see GM Motorsport do a super stock, and super stealth.

Any feedback?

I want low and mid range, and to retain stock converter, with as close to stock idle as possible.

My last dammed LS1 had a 110 LSA and huge lift...... I want something with stock manners if I go down cam route again.

That is the best cam if you want to retain a stock idle with good low down, mid range. Another one to look at would be Harrop H05. Not quite as stock but still would go basically un noticed at idle. There are sound clips for that one too.

I thought E5 cam was 116° lobe centre, 221° even split, ~.55" lift?
Perhaps at least stock split, late teens Int. mid 20s exh. with lift LSA and ICL like LS3 would work.

It is dual spec AFM deac and non-deac cam lobes on a single bolt 189 series VVT core.
It is quite complex but basic spec for deac #1 cyl is like 200/208 .510" on 120°+4°

I just got the WALKY W407 to my series 2, i think the cam is 224, 224, 118LSA its a really well behaved cam. Good street manners and on idle you know its got a cam in it. Picked up 50HP too. happy days

Thought I would bump this thread again.

Of the E5 from VCM (221/221, 585 lift on a 116 LSA) and the GMM superstock (219/235, 606/620 lift, 118 LSA)

* which would have closest to stock idle (is this mostly governed by LSA, or is the inlet and exhaust numbers contributing?)

* which would have better low down power?

*which would make more overall power?

Any other comments about how they would behave or perform?

FWIW I have 1 3/4 4-1 headers, with 2.5 catback

Both odd to me, first is old school as in cathedral heads, basic. Not really along the lines of GM LSx development.
GMM is opposite at least in terms of the split, presumably early intake for compression then much exhaust and overlap, delays torque until late rpm only then comes on strong. Overkill, as in good for nitrous otherwise that much exhaust is just odd.
For example the fastest NA L77 / LS3 in a Zeta on the strip uses 219/223 .612/.615 112+1. That’s less than half the exh duration and intake lobe is 7° more advanced than superstock. So don’t really know what Superstock is aimed at.
Spend $25 and fill in a form online at Guerra Group (Pat G), he is one of the best and will give you a clear idea with exact spec.

Wow! So the tighter LSA on the E5 won’t give a choppier idle?

You seem to think the E5 is miles ahead monstar?

In order of priority I want as close to stock idle, reasonable fuel economy, then usable low and mid range power.

I currently have approx 250rwkw, most upgrades I have seen with the super stock seem to net another 50 give or take
