hi, i have a vr commo that clunks into gear when i select a gears *like going from reverse into drive. would this be cause by diff wear? ive recently serviced the tranmission and that didnt help much.. althou it shifts better

could be diff? have you checked your uni joints or tailshaft center bearing?

or mounts, liek gbox mounts, mine was clunking, got the gbox mount repalced and no more..

yeah not to long ago when i had it roadworthyed they replaced 1 of the tranmission mounts i think it helped a little bit. How do i check uni-joints

i think if the tailshaft moves if u try pusshing it up i think the uni's are stuffed? is this correct?

lay under the car and twist your tail shaft left and right and check the joints at each end of your tail shaft for free play do the same at both ends.

To check the uni's just try to rotate one end of the propeller shaft clockwise then anti-clockwise whilst watching or looking as closely as you can at each uni. Any play will be evident and it only takes a mm or so of play for the grease to dry out and water gets in and then they will rattle.
It isn't unusual for most transmissions to 'clunk' when going from D to R especially on high mileage vehicles....many times it is simply a small bit of wear here and there which add up to a clunk.
