I have bought twice from Pickles Auctions (www.picklesauctions.com.au) in Canberra. No you can't drive before hand. Yes you can start the car and check all over, under, in and out etc. Can even arrange a vehicle inspection on site if you want to. Thing is at an ex-government auction, the cars almost ALL have new car warranty. I had to pay $28 for a certificate that meant I could drive without rego. Then go to the ACT equivalant of the NSW RTA on the Monday, pay $28 to get new plates, stamp duty and 12 months rego and that was it. Because it was under warranty and had previously had ACT "Y" plate rego I didn't need a vehicle inspection (roadworthy equivalant). Oh and the knock down price was the final price. No extra fee to the auctioneers etc. They tried to add GST but we got them on fair trading. Not allowed to sell anything in Australia with a "plus GST" clause. So I guess I saved another 10% there. Who knows how many people paid the 10% though. They stopped doing that after our argument and GST is also now included in the knock down price. Simple as that!
