I had a VE MY10 built September 2009 since new. Sold it 2 weeks ago with the same battery it left the factory with, so 7.5 years and still going strong.

Replaced my BA Ford's battery about 8 months ago with a Yuasa 57EFMF from Battery World. It replaced my previous Century battery (also from the same Battery World) that lasted 4 years and 10 months.

They had the same Century model battery available but the guy said he wouldn't recommend them anymore as they are now Chinese made and you only get about 3 years out of them. (He said my previous Century battery wasn't made in China.) These cheaper Century batteries are probably what are being sold at Supercheap.

I understand that the VE Commodore has the battery in the boot. Heat is one of the major and premature killers of auto batteries. Batteries located in the engine compartment really have a hard life - especially during summer months. Perhaps the location may be one reason batteries seem to be lasting longer !!

That's interesting, and sounds like a good setup but whats the go with charging two batteries with different chemistry's off one alternator?
Or is it some kind of Calcium gel chemistry?

I don't understand how the ECM & BCM computers can recognize and charge both batteries?
Car starter batteries are not "deep cycle" cells, they have different charging requirements.
    *very curious*

oh ****. that's probably what Battery World are using...I guess we'll see how much life I get out of it.
I've been monitoring the charge live, via the 'engineering mode' and has now dropped from about 15.5V to a steady 14.4V

Heya all found out today that you can reprogram the alternator on ve's to output a higher output, going to cost 300 but will allow 15v charging and should fix the problem with big amps killing the batterys

88643 km on the ve's clock, and nothing but trouble since day 1. Found out today she now needs a new harmonic balencer and idler tenshioner pully plus new belt cause i been using shorter one by 10 mill to take up slack in idler pully. Keeps spittin belt off alignment. So im up for all that plus a remap to get motor in sinc with trans better and also upgrade alternator settings. Bad day but its always fun getting new things done :)

Well, if he told you that charging your battery at 15V requires a $300 ECM remapping then either he's taking you for a ride or you misunderstood the details maybe?

The automatic battery charge control is via the BCM & ECM control modules. It only increases the charge voltage to 15V if required.
As I mentioned in my post above....

I've been monitoring the charge live, via the 'engineering mode' and has now dropped from about 15.5V to a steady 14.4V

There was no need to remap anything.

Your system should be able to charge yr battery at 15V already, without the cost of remapping the ECU.
It's automatic and pre mapped that way from the factory.

Your cars charge system will only charge at 15V IF and only IF the battery requires this voltage.

If they have tested the system and told you there is a fault and that your system is not charging correctly, then u may need to repair or reflash the ECM
    Is that what they said?
Does your charge system have a fault preventing it from charging the battery correctly?

If you are draining the battery due to excessive use of a powerful after market audio system, then I'd imagine your battery would be under constant high voltage charge eg: 15V

It's very easy to check the charge voltage, u can do it yourself via the engineering mode on the dash.

What if it was setup for a 460cc battery and not the 600cc heavy duty. Would there be settings that need changing to use larger and also alternator settings to suit?
