Hi All,
I have a WH2 Statesman SV6 and twice now, the battery light comes on while driving and the engine stops.
It has restarted after a few attempts, fails again once or twice while trying to move away, and then drives away normally. Almost like it has to relearn.

Has anyone else had a problem like this? If yes, what was found to be the cause please?

Thanks and regards, Al

I would start by cleaning and checking the battery clamps and terminals and also the wiring at the alternator. Also check the voltage at the battery with the engine running and let us know the results.

Hi,
I will do that and tomorrow I will look at the brushes as well.
Car has 230K and today I listened to the alt bearings, they sound/feel noisier than I would expect.
Thanks for your reply. Regards.

So others can get more out of this I will be a bit thorough.
Volts at battery posts at idle before work, 13.99/14.00
Took out alternator checked bearings by feel , used but good.
Pulled brushes/regulator 1 191 067 051, brushes very worn.

Grabbed VX alt off shelf (144K) pulled regulator, 1 191 067 043.
Brushes much less worn.
Cleaned all connections between battery and alt, refitted with VX reg.

Started and found volts to be 14.39 at idle.

So, maybe the brushes were becoming too loose on the rings, we will see.

If fault occurs again then I will report.

Regards, Al
