any amps or dvd players installed?

Might not be getting that good of a charge from the new alternator

does the battery feel hot when it drains?

Check voltage over battery terminals with the car idling. If its under 13.5 the battery isn't charging

Check if the alternator is charging the battery by putting DVM across the Battery terminal. Should get around the 13.3-14volt mark.
Also check the charge while its under load, so put things like headlights, blower fan or any other electrical load and check the voltage on the DVM it should read 13.3-14volts.
Also you mentioned something about your power cable being corroded, check for voltage dropr of the power cable from the back of the alternator to the battery positive post.
the reading should not be higher than 0.5v. If the reading is high there is resistance in the cable and need changing. Also how old is your battery?
Good luck

Burnt wiring. The insulation not only burns but the wires also creating in a loss of voltage to your battery.
Either replace the whole loom or cut out the burnt section and replace it with the same or heavier gauge wire.
