I have a VR s2 exec. i read on a post about bell mouths and decided to see wot all the fuss is about... turns out its nothing. the car idle roughly. so i put it back in and the car still idle roughly on start up, i hold it at 3000rpm for 8 seconds and the idle returns to normal, but the engine light is on. is this just that it's logged a fault code?? if so can i retreive codes with out a computer?
the problem of rough idle starts again once the key has been cycled. any ideas??

did you disconnect the ecu for a few seconds before you did the rev at 3000rpm thing for it to reset the idle. If you didnt then what you did will do nothing, and yes you can retreive them simply do a search on codes and you will find the how-to thread

i disconnected ecu, redid the rev to 3000 thing. still getting the same problem with engine light on. i checked the codes and getting code 33, which i think is MAP sensor voltage to high..

I would say that you haven't reconnected one of the vacuum hoses, perhaps the one to the MAP sensor, or perhaps the gaskets between the inlet manifold and T'body elbow are no longer sealing after being removed and refitted.

With guys above, double check your work. Hoses loose or cracked, gaskets that may have to be replaced. Sensors disconnected. Check especially around the back of the throttle body.

I did the exact same thing last week when I cleaned my throttlebody. Make sure the hose that comes out the back (towards the rear of the car) of the throttlebody is in place, it goes about a foot over towards the passenger side and into a small black box on the firewall.
