children, children... settle it down... they are ALL holden and that's what matters... geez, it's not like you're trying to say a Camira is a commodore... gets confusing don't it... Clubsport and R8 - Moderately done up engine, lot of luxo options, minus the woodgrain, and climate control, and leather as option rather than standard Senator - soft of halfway between Clubbies and GTS's... Lot of luxo options, and partly done up engine, some more so than the clubby GTS = most luxo options, but done up engine - believe woodgrain and climate are options. Frankly, I'd be happy with any of them, and don't give a crap whether they are called commodores or not - as long as someone a: Buys my car to give me money to buy one! or b: offers to trade one for my VY!!!! Too much to ask?
There is a load of difference between a Holden Commodore and a Holden Berlina. Check out the link and look at the difference between the 2006 models. Note: 96 models were not avail so i thought id show the latest in comparison. http://www.redbookasiapacific.com/au/vehicle/comparespecs.php?key3=HOLD06DO&key=HOLD97BU&key2=HOLD06CT I dont think of the Berlina as a Pov. Calais. I bought a Berlina becasue i didnt want a Calais.eg I didnt want leather seats, it is a car not a lounge room suite. I wanted something with a bit more class with gadgets and which has a better resale (when it comes to it). Infact the '96 Berlinas were almost a Calais when compared to the Holden Commodore Executive. Yes at the end of the day they are all Commodores but if Holden wanted it that way Holden would of titled them "Holden Commodore Berlinas/Calais" but they didnt. As Mattman says go check the website.
I think they make Calais seperate to make the owners/buyers feel special.. If you can buy all the calais stuff (at a farly high price mind you), bolt it onto an executive and it would be very hard to tell the difference then it's still a Commodore VL Commodore SL VL Commodore Executive VL Commodore Berlina VL Calais Possibly because back then there wasn't a statesman or something and they just stuck with it, who knows
well, when it all boils down.. they have the same base, panels, motor, /tranny/brakes/stud pattern/aerial <-lol /same dimensions/suspension =same car!!! just with more interior bits added!! you say yuor calais/berlina isn't a commodore because of gadgets that arn't an option on "commodores"? i could say my ss isn't a commodore because i've got lips and boot lid spoiler that arn't options on "commodores" either. berlina's and calais are commodores!! ooooooh u got climate control!! wow!! i've got air con, but even better, i've got a clutch and stick!
Mate they all essentially based on commodores no one is disputing that. The reason I said afaik (as far as I know) and (I'm not claiming to be an expert on the subject) is because I have never seen 'Holden Commodore Calais' in any kind of official print, but I have seen Holden 'Commodore Berlina' used frequently. You just need to look at the rta site and when you select make- holden, you will then get to pick from models including commodore statesman and calais but no berlina there. Its like that at a hell of a lot of places, including many major insurance companies. Hell even the holden workshop manual i have says commodore/calais/statesman, but alas no berlina. Theres tonnes more examples and I'll list them if need be but atm I couldn't be f$%ked. Perhaps all of these people realise there is a significant difference between the base exec model commodore to the calais but don't see a big enough difference between the commodore and the berlina for it to warrant being listed as a seperate model.
I think it depends what model u have i have a pic of a vl advert and the berlina is in the commodore range.
All basically the same car when it comes down to it. . . . Do they have a special plant where they make the berlina and calais seperate? ? ? ? I dont think so, they go down the exact same production line as the commodore. . . . .
you were doing well until you said about the tyre gauge not working. that is a blatant lie, the rest could technically be true.
hehe, what a hornets nest. is an excecutive a commodore? cant be its an excecutive. the "statesman" hoewever IS a totaly diferent beast. but unfortunalty for all of you who own berlinas and calais (obviously not commodores) there are no auto parts stores that have listings for parts for your cars under those names. you need to look under "holden" "commodore" then the year/series. and low and behold you may find stuff like variable effort steering options for the calais n stuff on the same list but, sorry guys and girls they are just optioned up commodores.
its funny. when i went to insure my car i said i had a 93 vp holden commodore berlina series 2. they said there was no such thing. they said it would be a 93 vp holden berlina series 2. yes they are just a more luxdurious (dont look at spelling) commodore but they are technically not classed as a commodore
yeah, well, Izuzu's are really commodores too. Built by the same company so they must be. and don't forget, Barina's are just baby commodores to. one day they will become a commodore. PFFFFT! blah blah... THEY'RE HOLDENS, THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS!
Does an exec wear a commo badge? Does a calais? If I go to holden to buy say a VT 5L commodore instrument cluster what do I get? I single window thing thats unsuitable for my car, change the word commodore to calais and what do I get? exactly what I need. I get the humour in this guys ignorance, and would probably give him a bit of a ribbing myself. And I realise that essentially they are all based on the commodore but I know officially that my calais's are not commodores. I don't call my cars commodores just as you wouldn't call your commodore a calais. I think everyone else here realises they are commodore variants, if not they probably wouldn't have joined this site.
All right, get off the site then!! this is WWW.JUSTCOMMODORES.COM not www.justcalais.com or www.justcommodoresandcalais.com  :hit:  :drink:
classic! but yeah, someone said about the VK's... i've got a VK Berlina, got the commodore and berlina badges... Somewhere along the line they droped the commodore part out of the name... but Berlina's and Calais are all commodores... As far as being seperated on the website, it is to help with navigation. If someone wants all the spics and specs of a calais, then rather than looking at a commodore with extra, they just straight to the 'calais' model which is what they want... and for the post before... Since when isn't the Camira a Commodore :hit:
It's the badge that counts! My view: If a Berlina is not a Commodore, then neither is a Lexcen. Next thing some one will be claiming that a Lexus ES300 is not a Toyota Camry with some extra luxury items added.
