Hi everyone, wasn't sure where to put this so just thought I'd stick it here.
(after discovering it shouldn't be in the VZ thread).

Just wondering what the best V6 Commodore Coil Packs are? (ie stronger spark
etc). I'm assuming the newer the model, the better they are?
Are the supercharged ones better than the N/A ones or are they the same?

To be used in a VL Turbo as a wasted spark setup.

I don't really know an awful lot about the Commodore V6's so hoping you guys
can help.

cheers

im pretty sure all ecotecs (VS-VY) have the same coil packs, you can get MSD ones, but i hear they do the same job as holden ones, just there red.

I have heard that the super6 coils have more resistance than the N/A ones and wont work properly/as good on a N/A car. Also the MSD ones will be better, but it will not be anything to rave home about!

cheers guys, yea i've read the msd ones aren't worth getting coz they're just
the same as standard like you said, except red (mind you probably a lot
cheaper than buying new holden ones).

And my flatmate who did a VT Supercharged V6 into his VR tells me that the
supercharged ones are better (for forced induction motors) as they give a
stronger spark. So will try and get a set of VY supercharged ones or at least
some VY ones.

Thanks for that fellas

Maybe have a re-read of this post and go and ask a few people in the know and not just a few mates!!

Most people put MSD coils on a stock standard car and expect gains to be had! Unless you need the extra spark you aren't going to notice the difference no matter how good the coils/ignition system is!!

I would love to see someone get a coil pack from a
standard ecotec L36
supercharged ecotec L67
and a flash red MSD coil pack
and test them all and see what resistance they get from each of them

The resistance should be different between the L36 and L67 coils not sure on the MSD ones though, I would assume they would be a little bit lower than the L36 ones!

^ he speaks the truth. They are just a generic GM '2 tower' coil, heaps of american GM cars use the exact same ones. I'd just get MSD ones because they look cool and are cheap enough :p
