I used to run in my rotaries by keeping them at about 11,000 rpm for a few minutes. Always worked a treat. Ran in the 355 s/c at calder, off the trailer, into a nice heated burnout then an instant 12 second pass. Motor was perfect after 500 km,s 1000km's, 5000km's. Sold it after that.

The steel seals need a bit to bed in for sure, but thats a bit high. Those poor stationary gears.

Not high at all, for bridged, peripheral or turboed engines :)

Besides, if something did go wrong, it took 10 minutes to rip the engine out, another 10 to pull it down, another 10 to reseal etc. SO after 1-2 hours you had a full rebuild again.

No mate.

It's a sedan. I'm actually picking it up this afternoon and I cannot wait!!!!

Thanks for everyone who's responded.

Running in seems like a can of worms really.

I intend on hanging on to the car for many years (i.e over 10) and I don't want to bugger up the running in process.

I shall keep you updated.

Thanks again guys

Ha! Another ex-rotary fan hey? Me too. I've kinda grown out of them now, but I'll always have a soft spot for them. Awsome little engines.

I've gotta say though, 11,000 rpm is a tad high for a bridgeport and very high for a turbo. Peripherals love it - that's when they start to come on song...

not sure about this for car engines, i know that when i run in the kart motors, keep the revs down, like under 10k, so for a car would be about 3500, and work it hard, up down up down thru the revs. i have tested this and working it hard has helped for performance later when running in is finished, ide honestly prolly do the same to the car if it was my own

Tad high? Not at all.... Standard 13b un restricted will hit 9000 np.

As for ex-rotor fan, still a fan. I have my eyes on a nice savannah rx3 coupe in the US for sale. A rarity.

I know that any rotary will physically do 9000 rpm or more (hence the buzzer on the older models to remind you to change gears ;) ) but as for whether the standard or turbo engines are making any power up that high or if it's doing them any good - that's a different story.

Mmmmm RX3 Savannah Coupe - a rarity indeed!
