    2013 MY12.5 SV6Z + 2016 MY16 SV6, both manuals
    Ahhh, more memories.

I bought a Chook Tin back in 1980, basically because my then wife could not get the Commodore into second gear. Lovely Filipino gearboxes back then. Absolutely lovely wife now.

Picked it up, and drove home. Got out of the car, and found paint on my trousers. The paint was not even dry in parts!!!!!!!!

Got a call a couple of weeks later where they asked me to check that I actually had the rear disc brakes that I had paid for.

    Had lots of annoying problems.

Had a Fairmont Ghia manual (1990 model as well). Spent more money fixing that car that I have spent total on all the other cars in my life.

I was such a regular visitor to the local Ford Spares Parts counter that they gave me trade prices. In the clutch, I got to replace the following:

    1) Pedal mounting bracket - clutch mount bent. Seven hour job.

    2) Clutch pedal bushings, a number of times.

    3) Clutch cable.

    4) The bracket that connected to the clutch release arm.

    5) Clutch pressure plate.

    6) Had crack in the firewall (ten inches long) welded.

All this happened in the first four years of the life of the car. I complained to Ford about the crack in the firewall, and they told me, "You got 80,000 Km out of it. What did you expect?" Never to buy another Ford actually.

We won't talk about the computer/electronics problems. I don't want to cry, again.

Now I buy Holdens and all has been well.

yes to be honest, i am really keen on XR6T... good bang for bucks... better on fuel economy than an LS1 if babied and goes head to head stock, throw 8 grand and u have a 11 sec car!

lol at some of the comments in here.

ecotech better than the 4.0L I6... UMM NO the I6 has buckets load more torque and was quicker 0-400m always but lost out on the 0-100 sprint as the 4 speed box was hampered by a tall first gear. Race an stock XR6 eb-el in your stock v6's and tell me how you fair... ohh unlucky.

never had a drama with the NL i have and i have done 175,000k inc 4 trips to cairns/mt isa and townsville from brisbane in less than 18 months very good track record, doors dont squeek like my mates VS stato and it dosnt creak and feel like its about to drop the chassies over speedbumps like every VS i seem to drive. (im a new car sales consulstant for toyota and part time valuer/wholesaler i drive **** tins of the things)

the AU was ugly in S1 got better with S2-3 and the Tseries was a horn looking car, the 5.6L gave it to the LS1 even better than the BOSS and had a note i have yet to hear from either of the above.

some of you need to pull your head out of your arse when it comes to other car manufactures, the BA is ahead in every aspect to the VY, and now with the 6 speed manuals the XR8 is a 13.9 sec car stock!

with out ford holden wouldnt be making the cars they are today.... they rival eachother and that is what makes them bring out bigger/better built/faster models, every one buys what they buy because they like it.... unlike some brain dead guys who are just like sheep and buy what the crowd does because thats what the crowd is doing.

on sales results in RETAIL ford out sell holden, its in the fleet section where ford suffer as they dont have the assembily production as holden do, 2 shifts a day to 3 shifts running 24hr's and bigger fleet bonus's are what wins for those who dont care what they drive in the end as long as they are not paying for it.

to those who think a new ZF 6 speed out of bmw/jag/volvo/aston martin a 190kw base engine that complies with euro 3 emmisions and has torque to match the hsv's of 6 years ago, and sound insulation to rival a 5 series better rethink what they say before they shoot their mouths off.

the VE will be a giant leap for holden and i hope for their sake it will be a better car for it, you will see less sales as the production costs increase to match the build quality of the ba and in someways on paper at least suppass it, the test will be when they land and the run is into about 2 years as to how it holds up.

A VS Ecotec will always beat an EL/EF Ford, they're heavier and while on paper have more torque the overall design of the shitty car that is the UGLY FORD restricts the I6s full potential. Race an XR6? good one, don't they have 3.45:1 ratios? If you're going to compare makes atleast admit they're horribly mismatched, hell a stock VS Ecotec with exhaust and 3.45 diff would hand an EL/EF XR6 it's ass.

And I don't give a **** about the line you always pull "try a rolling start and you're gone", I don't give a **** about rolling starts, nobody does. The rolling start has now become the one only excuse to ever come out of a Ford fan, seriously it's pathetic.

You've done quite a few mods to your car and it still runs what mid 15s? It weighs a ****ign shitload at nearly 1800 right? You're going to need a fair bit of power at the wheels to get that fatty going. Try similar mods on a VS Ecotec and well results would speak for themselves.

UNR8D I agree with you on a lot of things like
The T3, BA's superiority but hey it should be especialy when you take into account we have spent twice as much developing the **** due to our global inventory being no where like GMH's. **** they still sell more commodores then we do falcons, WHAT DA?

My 351 shitbox fairlane (manual) with 3.0/1 gears was pretty much line ball with an automatic pursuit ute in a rolling start and since then I have loated these motors. Where's the quad cam advantage?
C'mon general motors where's the iron blocked LS1 the nascar one or whatever it is? Man I would jump ship straight away no questions asked. I've seen a Gen3 pulled to bits and what impresses me most is the size of the valves and ports F#$K'N HUGE!

Oh, almost forgot to mention that a VS statesman would OWN a blobby looking NL Fairlane. Those things can't go around a corner without rubbing door handles. Yes! their more solid but performance and handling they would own ya.

t2te50 where do u live, ill take you for a drive you would change your mind especialy considering i now have kmac adj shocks, super lows and other small suspention mods.

15.232@94.8mph was the best before diff change at willowbank look at the MPH before you critisize the time, with better take off i will be well into 14's so shut your wingeing.

XR6 was long the king of 6's, the ecotec is the most noisy harsh pos v6 ever put into a production vehicle excluding the BUICK that predecessed it. WOW a 60's buick v8 with 2 cyl lopped off... yup aursome

havent lost to too many S/C v6's or V8 statos either

stock vs stock not stock vs modded S pac was an XR6 competitor and was SLOWER in all comparisions, the stock GLI/Exec were 9.1sec vs 9.2sec 0-100 and 16.2 vs 16.4 qtr times the 0-100 in favour of the commodore the qtr given to the ford.

heard of overtaking ability..... and refer to post above for times :flame:

UNR8D, don't try and argue the EL/EFs were quicker than VSs, they simple weren't. Those stats are wrong and I've raced plenty of them and have never lost and all my car has is CAI and filter. Anyone on this forum can vouch for me that Fords are slugs, they've always been(pre BA ofcourse).

Thats all well and good but whats your fuel consumptions like with the stall? (sh%thouse). Don't tell me that you don't have one because an automatic windsor is slow. We had a 200kw auto and it sucked! juice that is. It's all well and good if you get over 15L per 100 and do 14 flat quarters but otherwise put the thing in a museum.

Guys don't forget the series 3 TE50 5.6L they are monsters and are as quick as any manual 285kw manual clubbie. Hey I've even cleaned up some 250kw late model commodores by a car lenth or two. One guy was pissed because he had the mentallity of oh it's just a shity little 5.0L, god did I rub it into him at the next set of lights!

    This is a great thread!
It's funny because i had a look at the Ford forum today and there was one forum title "Can a EF/EL stock beat a VS ECOTEC stock", and the content was exactly like this one but obviously saying the fords are quicker.
There were a lot of people though saying that an VS stock will kill a EL stock everytime, makes you wonder doesn't it.

Anyway, my VS manual always beats the mates EL xr6 manual in drags. Never done it over a quarter mile though.
My old man has BA fairmont, quick car once you hit 3 grand, never lined mine up against it, but i think it would be interesting.
