Ive been curious for a while now, is it worth getting bigger brakes for my VS Exec?

Is there any bonus to putting VT twin piston brakes on the front? im pretty happy with my brakes allthough sometimes i wish they could stop a bit quicker :p

Are VT discs any bigger than a VS? id like to have huge ass Shiny discs sitting behind some nice 18" rims one day, but my VS discs seem a bit small to what i see in show cars.

If i wanted VT brakes on my VS what parts do i need? just calipers and discs? or is there more to it than that?

    Thanks in advance.

you will need calipers, rotors and new brake lines. unfortunatly there not really any bigger, however the twin spot calipers do work a lot better and pull the car up better. also resist brake fade better as well. if oyu can afford it, get slotted rotors, they **** all over standard rotors

    Some specs for your consideration

    VS Front Rotors XXX 035
    Diameter: 289mm
    Thickness: 23mm

    VT-VZ Front Rotors XXX 040
    Diameter: 296mm
    Thickness: 28mm

    VS Pad Area [part #:XX 1085] : 43.4cm 2

VT Pad Area [part #:XX 1331] : 53.2cm 2 (More if you use the police spec pad DB1344 in bendix, some others pads offer the same surface area as the police spec pads as the standard XX 1331)

And one other thing to consider

VS Exec V6 Auto = 1409kg kerb weight
VT Exec V6 Auto = 1576kg kerb weight

the ebay item got me thinking about it, but if i was gonna do it i wouldnt buy it from ebay, i was gonna browse the wreckers for some decent calipers and get some slotted rotors from repco or supercheap.

Will the bigger thicker VT brakes handle excessive braking better than the VS? ive managed to warp 2 sets of rotors in 2 years on my VS (stock rotors not slotted)

you can get calipers from the wreckers but need specific rotors for the conversion as the VT has a different offset to the VS.

definitly go with the VT upgrade if you like to "use" the brakes a lot. definitly go with the slotted ones also as they will take a lot longer before they start to fade

Just running some numbers of the top of my head DBA Slotted rotors at $150 each, decent pads $100 that’s already $400 not including calipers and the custom brake hoses that you'll need. So that ebay package isn't that far off.

In saying all that I will have VT calipers coming off my car in the next few weeks, PM me if you’re interested.

The VT brakes will work better then the standard VS brakes. Remembering that brakes convert kinetic energy into heat, having a larger and thicker rotor will take more heat, the large friction surface will also improve the ability to stop.

As to warping, VT's with stock rotors are known to warp as well. But go with a better quality rotor with better venting and metal composition then the stock items. I personal haven't had a problem since I went with the DBA slotted rotors, but I'm sure there are other brands that are good as well.

The other thing to keep in mind when looking for improved braking is the friction material used in the brake pads and the condition of your brake fluid. I like to change my brake fluid with a super dot 4 yearly.

I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure they use normal VT rotors for the conversion part number XXX 040. They have the same hat hight of 83mm as the VS rotors, and hat hight is what would effect offset between rotors and caliper mounting.

Well its something for me to keep in mind as i need new rotors now anyway, plus ive just got mags so some nice slotted rotors wouldnt be too bad, what about drilled and slotted, are they worth it?

im planning to redo my entire suspension in 4 weeks, lowered new shocks, struts, tie rod ends probably ball joints etc. would be nice to bolt on some shiny new brakes at the same time.

Dont go drilled and slotted... If they get wet while their hot they crack. They are good for track use (when you change them at the end of the race) but for normal street use ive heard a lot of bad things. Stick with a decent set of slotted with decent pads and you'll be fine.
