I love the look of a nice clean black car.. Its amazing the difference the fresh paint and zero rash on the wheels makes to the whole car. I just wish black wasn't so god-damn hard to keep clean!
Yeah Its the biggest Pain in the arse the drivers side, side skirt, when its been cleaned then dust gets on it from being driven slightly. you get out and brush your leg on it or anywhere on the car and it looks like crap and looks scratched haha Now its got a full tank and its sitting longer and settling more the arse is lower. again! I'm going on this trip on sunday doing around 800km round trip so it will be interesting when i get home how it sits. Bloke at work said I just need to run it at half a tank all the time!
Well on saturday and sunday I did a fair few KM in the car getting up towards 1000km. I sat down and worked out the fuel econ, not going by the clusters current reading... I did 3 days local driving around the suburbs where the car barely got warm. then saturday i did about 130km through town then out on the freeway for a bit. sunday on the same tank i drove to Renmark and Filled up, it worked out to be 11.6Litres per 100km. From Renmark I drove to Mildura then to Wentworth got lost 3 times trying to get back to Renmark by taking roads that turned to dirt and had to turn around. I got back to Renmark and Topped it up again as I'd done 520km in that time and I didn't know of any other BP's on the way back That run sitting on between 100-110km plus giving it a bit overtaking other cars it worked out to be 10.1 litres per 100km I'm pretty happy with that in general. although I'm down to almost half a tank now. I spent over $150 on fuel to take a bird I'm seeing into Vic and Nsw for the day. Some faults with the car though that pissed me off, The air intake was a pain in the arse when just cruising along going through towns at 80km you could head it taking in the air was pretty annoying Dunno how people can enjoy that! Plus with the low profile tyres the Leather seats and being lowered It was a struggle to walk after being on the rough roads for a day haha... All in all was a good drive and clocked up some KM **** load of clowns in Mildura in V6 commodores done up like show cars. Was amusing plus for those Victorians on here. Jesus you guys really have no concept on driving and need to sort some of the road rules and structures out... In the next fortnight I've Gotta buy new Front bonnet Struts as using vice grips are pissing me off... I'm also going to try changing the other air intake I have and not making the intake whole so big and If all goes well it wont whine like this other one does. Question The dash guages people buy the pods and put them in, What ones are used with climate control in a VY SS, i want ones that look factory if i can. but online there advertised as without climate control ones with climate control and all sorts its rather confusing. I was wondering if anyone has put them in and how hard it is. Is it just plugs for the guages or is it something that needs to be actually wired in?
Any 2 inch gauge will do. Ignore all the climate control stuff as you are putting them into a VY. It's only with the VZ you have worry about which climate control you have.
the struts are pretty easy to do and should only cost about 20 each I believe, common problem I have been told lol,and as nu13 said, from the research I have done the vy should fit straight in with not to much drama, just do some research and let me know how you go as I am also looking into doing this when the moneys there lol
Thought I'd come on and ask some Questions if anyone can help. After lowering the car the arse is lower than the front and its pretty noticeable I don't know if i should be putting SL in the front Because it only has Lows now But it does have SL in the rear.
Well I have to admit Bit excited, 3 weeks time and I'm going to the drags for the first time! I've only been on the strip at Gazzanats In my burnout car. But didn't do a full run. I'm Going to drive it out run on my 18s I don't think i should have any problems. Mechanic i work with is also running his 11second Valiant and giving me some hints. but neither really no what to expect with the times people say low 13s-mid 14s Who knows. But its Going to be interesting. Otherwise I'm looking at changing my headlight globes to something a bit less yellow any recommendations on here?
Throw a pic up but yeah i think your going to be right about putting SL's in the front. As for the drag just go hard as your ok with going and you should be happy.
I'm always on the lookout for this car when I'm around the Morphett Vale area haha. VY SS's are so nice!
Oh Cool, Theres a few other VY SS Commodores that are black around the area haha. One came into my work the other day stocko, mine looks a bit lower in the front not a great deal but a lot lower in the back. I Put GT gas Short Shocks in during the week I put a pair of GT Gas Short shocks in the rear, Now the springs stay compressed when the rear end of the car is in the air. It doesn't seem to squat as much in the rear now and it seems pretty solid but drives good Looking into getting some KYB Front adjustable struts/shocks for it or Koni, much the same in prices and putting a pair of SL springs in the front and hopefully it will drive a bit better. NOT 100% on the struts though I'd like to do it but there $270 trade price for me each! for KYB. I broke a air vent adjuster thing in the dash the other day so i had to go to you pull it to get another. But i don't know how to put it in properly Theres a VY at you pull it gillman with everything still in it all elecs. I remember back in the day when it was rare to see a vs at u pull it. Anyway Heres a couple of pics Victor harbour last weekend, Out on the open road shes getting around 11 litres Per 100km Ran the tank low last week took 68litres to fill it Dunno how many litres the tank is though At you pull it
Painting your brakes on your list of things to do? Makes a huge difference imo. Looking good though.. I might have to check put one of the U pull it stores next time im in Adelaide.
I was thinking about just painting the rotors black Dunno, Prob wont touch the calipers if i do the rotors.
Nah i live at Hallett Cove but i have a mate who lives in Morphett Vale so i'm down there couple of times a week. I also play indoor cricket at the ICA on sunday nights.
Oh Ok Cool Theres a few Black VY SS commodores getting around Morphett Vale/christies kinda area. one at my work the other day i looked twice because i really thought it was my car for a minute lol
