Black thin Plastic flap/barrier in auto trans

Hi Guys. While putting the new o ring seal for the trans filter in, (the posts on here aren’t wrong about how hard it is to get that little tyke out), I noticed a thin black plastic flap broken. It looks like some sort of barrier or separator. My 1st question is, what is it, followed by, do I need to replace it or repair it. Hopefully my photos will assist.

Oh ok. Thanks heaps for that. I knew someone might be able to shed light on it. Do you think there is more of it underneath or is it just left over. The only reason I ask is whether I have worry about repairing/replacing it or not.

After having a look at different angles of other photos, I don't think this is the case as this part is away from the area I was talking about. I have attached to new photos. In the first image, you can see me pointing to the plastic flap which runs parallel to hole where the filter o ring and filter plug into. Note the orange plastic connection for location purposes. In the second image, at the bottom of the image you can see the orange plastic connection and hole to the right. The part you referred to is further near the top of the image. Back to the drawing board I guess. Thanks anyway.

I think I figured it out. I think it’s the pump to case seal/gasket and looks like it is only supposed to be joined to assist when locating it during assembly. I think I can leave it as I’m not taking it apart. I will replace the front pump shaft seal though. Apart from price, anyone have preferences for the poly or Viton/fkm seal?

Mine literally looks exactly the same as that and i asked a similar question on here about why it is cracked cause i thought a chunk of metal broke off but it's perfectly normal from what i've seen if other 4l60e's have it too. https://forums.justcommodores.com.au/threads/strange-crack-inside-transmission.242359/

Also the best method i found to remove that seal is with the threaded pipe and elbow method all you do is screw the pipe into that seal then tap on the elbow and it falls out easy af

I couldn't find anything anywhere on the net. It was only the fact I was in lockdown that I started watching disassemble videos of 4L60 E transmissions and when he was taking the pump out, I saw it move. Just flukey I guess, but hopefully it might help someone else.

Threaded pipe and elbow method?

You get a 1/2" threaded pipe with a 90 degree elbow screwed onto it and with another shorter piece of threaded pipe scewed onto the elbow, then all you do is screw that into the seal until its tight and just tap on the elbow and the seal pops out. I just realize you got the trans upside down so in your situation flathead screwdriver would maybe be the best way.
