I have an 2012 ve sv6 s2, was running perfect, then made a kind of rattle and stopped, had it looked at and spark plug has been hit, they have suggested valve stem with piston damage and say get a new motor.

recon engine i have been quoted $7500 from the shop.
has anyone done an LFX SIDI replacement? And is the $7500 about right?
On the other hand i can get a 2nd hand one for $2000 but unsure as the shop told me it usually creates chaos putting a 2nd hand one in.
Bit lost what to do from here

Drop a second hand one in. That’s what most do.

Sounds like a sales pitch to me, trying to sell you a 7500 rebuild. That must include a holiday in Fiji while they have the car.
Just go and find a good used engine with the same code as yours.

Thats what i am trying to find out and no one will give me a straight answer, mine says its an LFX and has A9Y, and MYA trans, so been ringing around to find out as long as all three match on a second hand one it will fit straight in. Is that right??

As you have an LFX engine you don't need to worry about any of the other codes as it will swap straightover. Buy a VF LFX engine as a replacement, you'll need to have the sump swapped over as they are different but you'll have more chance of getting a lower km engine and a better pcv system
