Hey guys do you know anyone like this in Melbourne? http://www.illuminateyourcommodore.com/ It seems like a pain to do it yourself. If anyone knows who does this please let me know. I'm sure there is others as well!!! Cheers
it is easy to do..... with the LCD display screens get 5mm LED's with resistors and with the dials use T5 globes from Autobarn....easy as
T5 globes look dodgy and cheap as, hot spots galore but if u want it dun quick and cheap thats the way 2 go bout it.
hey dudes, i've got myself a level 3 dash and loom to go in my VS, and wanna see about changing the illumination for the 3 LCD windows. What is used in them from factory, and how hard is it to change them to new green LED's? I'm sticking with green as my car's green, green neons etc. Is there much gain to be made by putting new LED's in? Also i've got the cluster apart, i'm just unsure of how the block holding the 3 LCD windows comes out, as i'm assuming this is the best way of getting at the LCD illumination. Hope someone can help!
The benifits of LEDs compared 2 globes is that they will b alot more tolerant 2 bumps and knocks so no easy blown globes, much better contact connection by soldering them in, they use less power, creates less heat and produce more light. the only benifit globes have over LEDs is that they have a better veiwing angle but u can modify LEDs 2 get the same effect.
sweet as, so they are globes used to illuminate the 3 windows in a Vr/s level 3 dash, not LED's? Cause they're the only ones i'd be changing. How does that block holding the 3 LCD windows in the cluster come out? Cheers
Correct they r globes used in them all u gotta do is unscrew the 2 screws holding the block in, unplug the PCB board connection thats under the cluster and it should come out as a whole. Then its a matter of takin the 3 screws out from the LCD screens face and it should them come appart in 2 bits (2 circuit boards) u'll see wat i mean wen u take it appart. Take out the 6 screws with the LCD screen curcuit board in it then basicly thats it. just b carful not 2 touch the LCD screen parts as somtimes they can b a bugger and not work properly if contact isnt made properly wen u put it back 2gether.
