Can anyone tell me whether or not a ECU/BCM handshake is required when changing the BCM of a 92 VP Calais. I know you have to do it with the VT's and such but they have PCMs so is it any different for VP?

I dunno, what's a VAT?

meant "vats" no epistrophe. means vehicle anti theft system. the vr has it tied to the ecu, where as the vn vp dosent. some people run vr and up engines on other cars or just need a custom tune where vats are disabled... far as i know this dosent apply to vn vp.

yeah that sounds like what i'm talking about. Basically in VT's and probs VR's etc etc when you replace the BCM you have to hook up a scantool to perform a "handshake" between the BCM and ECU so that the ECU knows to let the car function properly with the different BCM installed. My question is whether or not the VN/VP's require this handshake between the ECU and BCM. My thoughts are that they probably don't but I was told they would need it.

ive had different ecu's in my v6's and even swapped out memcal's from other vn vp's. some that had full calais bcm's and factory anti theft systems to exec cars that didnt and never head a problem.. far as i know vats tied into the ecu/memcal's dont apply to the vn vp...

Definitely no handshaking required with VP or VQ. It's just a simple voltage output to the ECM from the BCM to power it up.

Just to hijack thread for a sec, does the VP Calais BCM control the anti theft? As sometimes my engine light wont come on when I turn to ignition for anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes... I have to go and turn off the security system with the key in the pillar and I know it isnt the security lock as ive replaced that..
I was thinking of replacing the BCM to see what it does

On Series II VP Calais and VQ II the BCM does control anti-theft function. (Not so on Exec. and Berlina though.)
