I have to replace my bcm and I was wondering if a vs one that has the two buttons on the key head could be used in place of the low series vr one ( that uses only one button) that is currently in my car or is there something different between the two models. Also is it just a matter of plugging in and it all works provided you have the key heads coded to the bcm.

The BCM is programmed for your car, the keys are programmed for thje BCM. If you alter or change the BCM you must reprogreame your keys for the BCM. You can do this by quoting the codes on the BCM to a Holden Dealer or some Key Cutting Companys. The cost of doing this is approx $100.00 per Key.
I would buy a complete unit with Keys from a Wrecker or your Holden Dealer.

Checked out a vs at the wreckers with a bcm and compared the colours of the wires to mine and they are different.
Does anyone have the pinouts for the vs mid series bcm and what function each wire has? I can nut out most wires comparing the colours to mine but a few have me stumped

A good manual would be your best option. Guessing colours or getting second hand info can be costly.

Taking this into note. What BCM (Holden) can be fitted to a VN Exec to control windows, mirrors, auto turning off lights, dimming interior light, airbags maybe? Basically everything that a WH Statesman has.

Any ideas on how to do it instead of having individual modules per accessory i have?

A mid series vr bcm or a low or mid series vs one at the bottom level or a high series in either..airbags I dont think are controlled by a bcm.Power door locks would need the corresponding keyhead for the bcm to remotely lock and unlock the doors.

So, if i get "A mid series vr bcm or a low or mid series vs one at the bottom level or a high series in either" I would also need to change the key head on my key to obtain the alarm and keyless entry?

So i could go 1 step futher and get new VR/VS door and boot locks with ignition barrel and a new key at the same time?
