Just a random question. What does bog in the roof actually mean? Seen a nice defected vy ss ute for sale and owners worried it won't pass an inspection due to a bog in the roof

Rust or dents, filled with plastic filler. If it's been done properly to fill minor dents such as hail damage, it's OK, but if it's been used to fill rust holes, it's a bad repair and possibly illegal, depending on the extent and location of the rust.

It could mean some young children used the car roof as a trampoline

I’d thing that for bog to be used to repair rust in a roof, the rest of the car would be in atrocious condition. But who knows... It’s an easy question for your road authority inspectors to answer :)

Hard to say why the bog is there, but it seems like you're located in S.A, so if the bog is seen (even by the bog lump), they will fail the car. So best bet is if purchasing the car, make sure the bog isn't seen, which will entail a roof respray, once the bog lump has disappeared

@vc commodore , I’m curious why a vehicle would fail is bog is visible?

I can understand if bog is used to repair structural parts (yes I seem such) but on a nonstructural part it wouldn’t cause any safety issue at all. But thenI’d expect anything from bureaucrats

They class the roof as structural....Non structural areas isn't as important....But this thread is related to the roof, so it's structural, so no bog is to be visible

They insist that the offending area is welded and there is only to be a protector undercoat put over the welded area, so they can see that it is actually welded and not bogged or fibreglassed.

Not knowing the circumstances behind the bog being in the roof, just to clear the defect, I'd be making sure the bog isn't visible....

Oh and if it's a rust issue, personally I'd be doing it properly

Being structural members, no damage is allowed on the 'A' pillars or roof.

Roof skin is not structural. I can understand the A, B and C pillars along with the bracing along the roof line front to back and side to side as being structural but the roof skin just keeps the rain off your head.

If the roof skin was structural, then doors wouldn’t need intrusion bars because the structural skin would protect the occupants.

But I’d bureaucrats see i5 as structural, then it’s structural o_O

The roof is a structural member, just like the windscreen.
