VT II Wagon
Hey all, long time no see. I ended up selling both my VTII V8 wagon and my VS L67 ute, but have picked up a nice VN...

She's a 1990 Berlina, white, with the standard auto & aircon pack as well as body-coloured bumpers. There are only 170,000km on the clocks and she was a single-owner car from a deceased state. Minty fresh bodywork, engine and interior, and runs like a charm. The usual stash or receipts indicate she's got a fresh radiator and water pump in the last 12 months.

Better yet, it was only $350 and sailed through rego without any dramas. Sure, the 185/75R14's are a bit old but who cares?

The plan at this stage is to sort out the few issues it has and then look at doing a very mild performance build - extractors & intake, nothing too crazy.

I think the new radiator and water pump may have been because the car overheats at idle. Mind you, it looks like that is because the thermo fan doesn't cut in. It works fine if you directly actuate it with 12v, but the sensor is garbage so I'm replacing that to (hopefully) solve the issue.

More as it comes - boingk

Those hubcaps have got to go...find stock hubcaps, slap em' on for retro goodness.

Boiled linseed oil might be worth a shot on external & engine bay plastics/rubbers

Yep, I'll be trawling the yards as soon as I get the time. She deserves better than KMart spec hubcaps. I've also got my eye on a set of 16" Calais alloys, but they're the ones with about 9 twin-spokes and look pretty busy... not sure if they'd work too well.

Cheers for the VN love everyone!

I found a set of stock caps in pretty good nick so they're being posted to me and I also got around to fitting a new coolant temp sensor, although I still need to fit the new dash temp driver.

The new temp sensor makes her feel a bit nicer to drive, and no issues with temperatures that I can tell so far... although I have yet to let her sit long enough to see whether the fan kicks in when hot.

Been having intermittent trouble with starting the last few weeks so I replaced the fuel pump. Not a bad job, just messy, and for anyone wondering you'll need to jack the back of the car up and take the panhard rod off. Not a big deal at all and makes the job a million times easier.

The old pump was shot, full of the broken and split filter which looked pretty crap. The new one fired up straight away, she runs much better now!

Pics of her when I can, she's looking half decent as I put a claybar over her the other week and have waxed her a few times since.
