not VERY tight??? bwahahahahahahaaaaa

I have had 2 blokes (one being me) pulling hanging off my 900mm long bar*
trying to undo one of those bolts (on a HJ 308 that had never been off)
Lots of noise grunting and swearing before we heard the crack and the bar moved

*Over the years I have purchased 3 long bars.. 600mm,900mm and 1200mm
No they aren't tight. I'm a mechanic by trade and some diesel engines are 450nm. I think gen 4 Chev engines are 150nm plus 90deg I chalk mark 90deg and rotate them with the 3/4 gun.
I have a 1500mm long snap-on 3/4 ratchet that cost me $1200.

So have you undone one without using a rattlegun?

I didn't realise Holden made a V8 diesel engine and fitted it into a Commodore. Must do some checking into that.

$1200 for a snap on ratchet....Rep saw you coming

Last harmonic balancer bolt I did, was on a V6.....I used a breaker bar, resting on a rag on the chassis rail....Disconnected the fuel pump relay and hit the key. 1 loose bolt.....Tried a 2 month old electric milwalkie rattle gun and didn't budge it....

Are they snap on brand? I hope you didn't pay over $1,000 each for them :D:p

feck no.. don't be silly :p

the short 600mm one I bought maybe 35+ years ago .... Sidchrome back when they were not made in China but really, not that exxie. No memory of actual $
the 900mm is a Toledo .. again not that expensive. From memory it was $140... ish in the early noughties maybe about 15 years ago
and the 1200mm... special order thru a mate who works in the truck spares industry. A special order 1200mm no name breaker bar ..
cost $110 (had to pay upfront remember that)

Sidchrome is not made in China, its made in Taiwan along with a lot of decent quality tools now a days. I have some quite old Aust made Sidchrome sockets and TBH the quality is not that great. I also have 35 year old Sidchrome Aust ring spanners and they are brill. The Sidchrome of 35 years ago was decent though. Sounds like the BB you have would be around 35 to 40 years old. I bought my ring spanners from Kmart of all places when I was 16. Back when Kmart sold decent stuff. Seems like Sidchrome were really at their best around that time. I say that because the really early stuff had poor finish and was only nickel plated and not hard chrome like in the 80s.
I'm pretty impressed with Toledo gear. I have a bit of it and its made well.

I have a 600mm ABW BB and it was around 90 -100 bucks from Repco around 20 years ago. I have found it pretty good over the years.

I don't see where it says in shane_3800 quote that Holden made a V8 diesel and fitted it into a Commodore

Reminds me of my spare 304".
No heads, sitting on garage floor, breaker bar on the ground, attached starter and powered it with jumper leads.
Needless to say it did not go to plan. The breaker bar caused the motor to fall over, jumper lead slipped out of hands attached to starter, dented oil filter, and there it is on it's side winding over at a reasonable pace.
I had to laugh, but later choose different plan of attack.

Why the heck mention diesels when talking about a 304 V8 Holden engine?
