Bonnet & Boot Release

Hey Guys,

Ever since I've had my car the boot and bonnet releases have always not functioned the best. Anytime the boot is popped the lock releases but the boot doesn't seem to "pop" far enough or something and the lock closes again so to open it you have to be at the boot lifting upwards as its unlocked. The bonnet is a similar case with it popping occassionally just from the release but usually needs a second person at the bonnet lifting as it's released to "pop" it.

Anyone got any ideas how to fix these?

many u need to grease it, so it can easily move in and out of the latches

One thing to try would be the rubber bump stop things on the corners of the boot and bonnet. They are adjustable, you just screw them in or out a turn or two. If the boot ones are too low the boot will just keep latching shut.

The bonnet sounds like an issue with the latch though.

Unscrewing those two bumb stops is what I did to fix that problem. The problem started when the Clubsport bodykit when on, so I think the weight of the spoiler wasn't helping, also had to get stronger struts.

Finally got around to it and thanks to everyone for the help turns out it was the bump stops. Someone had screwed them all the way down, bought them out a couple full turns and all is working beautifully.

Bonnet release vr

Hi guys, my bonnet has closed and wont release. The cable is still intact, but the bonnet won't open. Any ideas on how to fix it.

You could try putting pressure on the bonnet downwards while someone pulls the release. i could be poss that your bumpstop things are to high and causing the bonnet latch to catch and not release properly

Commodore bonnet releases rely on a long cable that stretches with age. When this happens, pulling the bonnet release doesn't fully release the catch. The problem also occurs on hot days, when the heat radiating through the bonnet skin causes the cable to expand. There are three adjustments you need to check.

To rectify the problem, you need to pull the cable while somebody presses down on the bonnet, this should enable the bonnet catch to release and the bonnet to be opened. Then adjust the small clamp fitted to the radiator support panel near the catch. Undo the screw slightly and pull the cable to the left of the locking clamp, just enough to remove any slack in the cable, then retighten the clamp screw.

The next adjustment is the rubber bump stops - they should be adjusted so that when the bonnet is closed correctly, the bump stops are compressed. This compression helps the bonnet to pop open when you pull the cable.

The third adjustment is the bonnet latch - you need to release the large lock nut and screw the latch pin in or out to get the correct adjustment. Greasing the pin is a good idea as they tend to dry out with time.
