I have a Commodore SVZ sedan MY2006. What type/size socket is required to remove the 2 bolts on the bottom plate to replace bonnet gas strut?

If you want to save money while bonnet is fully open just slightly bend one strut slightly and it will hold up the bonnet no need to spend money and it does the job.

Thank you for your suggestion it was appreciated. The issue however, for me, is that some years ago a boot lid strut failed just at a time when my wife was placing groceries in the boot and the boot lid fell down on her forehead and caused long lasting injury. I have therefore decided to replace the bonnet struts as after being in service for 12 years both are coming to the end of a useful and safe life - I have already bought the new struts but Holden has used a fixing type which I haven't seen before and I was wondering if any member has had the same issue and could advise me what type of socket is required to unscrew the 2 bolts on each fixing plate.

You need a T30 Torx Bit.

Or a set of them like this would come in handy for any future jobs .

I have also been the victim of a bonnet falling down on my head because of my struts failing. I too will be buying them brand-new. Are they easy to replace if one was to get the correct torque screw?

Easy as, I did a pair recently and took all of 10 minutes. All you need is the correct torques bit and a small screw driver to lift the clip on the other end of the strut. A 2nd pair of hands to hold the bonnet whilst the struts are disconnected is also advisable.

What he said Torx bit. 10 minute job but need 2nd person or a brace to hold. Boot struts are even easier
