Hey, today jb hi fi had 30% off all car audio so i bought myself a Alpine Type R sub in box (SBR-S123V) for $350 down from $500 and i was told the alpine 1.1000 amp worth $800 was the best amp to run it, could of got one $200 cheaper which they said would of been just enough, also one guy told me to get some sony 8 gauge amp wiring kit which was about $80 and then another guy said no way get the kicker 4 gauge one which was $170 so i got that, also i was told you get a better sound from the amp if you cut out the parcel shelf holes and just install some grilles in there and no speakers as it acts as a port for the sound to get into the car, does this sound right? was told 6 inch speakers in the rear doors will be better then 6.5's or 6x9's in the parcel shelf if i have the sub too.
would just like some input from some experienced people here to let me know if i done the right thing in listening to what they said as i dont have much of an idea with this stuff, Cheers

I don't know about all the stuff they told but putting grilles in the parcel shelf gives the subs a much better sound, I did it a few months back and it really makes a difference. Just puts 6's in the rear doors.

$800 to run a $350 sub? $170 for a wiring kit? Sorry to say mate but they saw you coming. Can you refund any of it?

You didn't even need to spend half that for the amp, and under $100 for the wiring kit.

if i was to refund it i would say the other stuff i buy i wouldn't get the 30% off, so it wont make much diff if i was to refund it and buy a cheaper amp for full price, what is this pdx.1000 mono amp more for if not for a type r sub? is it more so to run 2 subs? and the wiring kit i have no idea about the differences in these.

Yes but you could buy 2 of the subs with the enclosures, get the dual 4 ohm version, a 1ohm stable amp for under $400, a wiring kit, and still have money left over......Ask yourself where the best value is.

The Alpine amp is just an expensive amp, sure it's a good amp, but i'll bet the cost of it that you wouldn't pick an audible difference between it, and a mono block amp costing half.

What are you paying installation for? The subs are all ready in enclosures, your just running a wiring kit though, and connecting the rca's to your head unit. Have a go at it yourself, we can give you the step by step you need to get it done in a few hours.

    OMG!

I spent $800 which covered my girlfriends car and mine with 4x 6.5" front splits, 4x 6" 4-way for back, 1x amp & 1x 10" sub for her car. (mine already had 2x 12" and amp)

You got ripped off big time for what you were after and the amp actually require versus 1 that was more powerful than required and 2-3x the cost.

Your comments don't really help considering you didn't mention what components you bought, and we can't understand what you wrote...

He didn't get ripped off, after all he did get 30% off, all i'm implying is that the amplifier he purchased doesn't represent the best value, and that some money could have been saved on the wiring. What he paid for the components themselves was quite reasonable.

Sorry, my post was not as clear as i intended.

Yes, i got 8 speakers, sub & amp for still a lower amount then he got a sub & amp for.

However, yes the amp and sub are awesome and powerful, my intention was trying to get across the fact, he got 'ripped off' as he was suggested that amp which is double the output power actually required for the sub purchased.

He could have saved considerably more if they had of matched them up with one of the same output, etc rather than trying to make a sale.

I mean't ripped off more in a sense of advice, not money.

My friend about a month ago went into JB HiFi, spent a crap load of cash with a '25% off deal' and then had issues with the speakers not fitting in doors due to depth, having 6x9s in the parcel shelve pushing severely against the springs used to hold the boot up when open, & the sub enclosure not fitting in the clearance of the boot to actually fit.

He ended up getting a wad of cash back after the installer (not the sales guy) checked it all over and got more suitable and fitting speakers & sub enclosure for his car.

The sales guy was told over and over the type of car that it was going into and still got it wrong.

I have a 12 inch pioneer sub and pioneer mono block amp sounds sweet. I installed 2 6x9 pioneer speakers in parcel shelf today, needed to go buy speaker spacers.
The amp must b good, but hey it's going to still give you bass. Never heard of those grills for parcel shelf, might look at some myself

Back to it though, it's up to you whether you prefer the sound, simply try with and without the parcel shelf vented. Rear speakers are up to you, run them, don't run them, door, shelf, you won't notice much difference from the drivers seat.

Personally i ran 6.5 in front doors. 6 in the rear doors and the sub in the boot. I didnt remove the speaker grilles in the parcelshelf and the sound was fine.

Just on price, i paid $800 for

    Headunit
    2x6.5 splits
    2x6 inch speakers
    1x4channel amp
    1x2channel amp
    1x10 inch subwoofer
    1x4gauge wiring kit

    (from JB)

This is the wrong thread to be comparing your cheap quality equipment with good quality equipment.
