hey guys,

today i had the unfortunate experience of the brake booster on my vk pack up on me, its not fun at all luckily i didnt have to much traffic to contend with and limped home. when engine is running, its leaking where the rod goes in and whenever u pump the pedal a loss of vacuum, loud hiss from that area (interior side) and rpms increase and motor very lumpy, removed the hose to the brake booster and blocked it off car has same braking characteristics.

so what im asking, other than getting a exchange brake booster, keep in mind there $187.00 exchange from american auto parts, is there a rebuild kit available for the brake booster model vh446? im not keen to go to wreckers as id want new rubbers in it anyway

cheers, cam

Are you sure it is not the plastic one way valve that the hose is conected to on the booster. They have a tendancy the get brittle due to the constant under bonnet heat. They are pretty cheap to buy. I'd try changing that first before spending big bucks

hey dayvo, nah its not that, i should have mentioned when i pulled the hose off that the one way valve was connected, so i blocked that off when the engine was running to check it, theres a vaccuum when u block it off therefore the one way valve has no leaks. vacuum air leak is from inside the cabin when pedal is pushed everytime. anyhow, the booster is the problem probably the diaphragm rubber perished etc being a bit over 20yrs old, im not suprised

hey vk dog , yes i had the same problem not to long ago , and ur best bet is just to replace the booster i would say ur rubber seal is leaking and probably easier to replace , we all know there a fun little job..i replaced mine with a second hand one , and i got it for 20 bucks beats $180 ( unless of course u do prefer new )

cheers

Boosters

I just went to a wrecker and grabbed another off the shelf....generally they go forever.
