Due to finding no reference what so ever in my service book to brake fluid being changed a very slight noise in or around the brake booster/master cylinder, i've decided to change my brake fluid this weekend. Whats the correct fluid to put in? And whats a quality brand?

The workshop manual for VT through to VZ models says the brake fluid used on these models must meet holden specification HN-1796 (it always say what specs the fluid meets on the bottle).. It says VZ models should use super DOT 4 spec fluid. I use Nulon brand super DOT 4 fluid in my bikes and my cars (VS and VY ). This fluid meets the holden HN-1796 specification, so can be used in models right up to VZ. It could probably even be used in the newer commys too, but Im not sure about them..

Finally got around to changing brake fluid this morning. On closer inspection there was a lot of cloudy rubbish at the bottom of the reservoir and the fluid looked a little scaley when held up to sun light. The almost inaudible noise is still there so i think i better whip it into the local brake specialist. I noticed something else while i was doing the fluid, my brake booster is a PBR make. Are they standard?

PBR, yes standard. When doing a system flush i suck all fluid out of master, clean inside with a lint free cloth, then put new fluid in and flush that through the whole system. Any dot 4 will be fine you don't have to use holden wank wank fluid. The noise your talking about is it when foot on brake or release? And is it a click metallic noise?

I can hear the noise when pressing and depressing the brake pedal. 99% the noise is coming from either the brake cylinder or booster. Here's the noise about 100 times worse from a youtube video i found.

What colour was the fluid you removed?

That doesnt sound good.
As you said, it needs to see a doctor whom works on vehicles

It was a dark green color, bit cloudy, a little scaley looking. Braking wise it feels normal and brakes well but the noise is annoying (though i am the only one that can hear it apparently)...but that said for both my sake and other road uses i think i better take it to the local brake specialist.

If its a noise similar to that vid you posted, then yeh reckon it has to go to be looked at.

Did you flush the system or only the reservoir?

Dark green and scaly isnt a good sign.

Just the reservoir. I'm not confident enough to flush the entire system. It was the sludgy white crap that i didn't like the look of. I'll drive it a bit more over the weekend then flush the reservoir again then off to the brake specialist i think come monday.
