All you need to do to flush the brake system is to get someone to hold the brake pedal in, get someone else to keep the master cylinder topped up with fresh brake fluid, dont let the fluid level fall below half way in the M/C , then crack the brake bleed nipples, one at a time, starting at the one furtherest away from the master cylinder,(usually rear left wheel), and get the person to pump the brake pedal a few times and then hold it in fully whilst you crack open the bleed nipple half a turn. Make sure the brake pedal is always held in full whilst the nipple is cracked open, otherwise it will suck air back into the brake system.. Keep doing the above, pumping up the brake pedal, holding it in, and opening the bleeder half a turn to let out the old fluid, keep repeating this until the clean new fluid comes through, then move onto the next wheel until theyre all done. Its pretty easy.

Just the reservoir. I'm not confident enough to flush the entire system. It was the sludgy white crap that i didn't like the look of. I'll drive it a bit more over the weekend then flush the reservoir again then off to the brake specialist i think come monday.

It really isnt that hard to do. Either 1 or 2 man flush. 1 man with force feed bleed system or vac suck system. Or 2 man one on the brake pedal and the other opening the bleed nipple. Clean out master, refill. Get your bleed bottle with hose and attach to L/R bleed nipple. Crack open bleeder and person in car pump fluid through nice and easy not like your sparta kicking, then lock off the nipple. Pump up the pedal and hold down to floor, open nipple and lock off again. Refill master. Repeat for all wheels. Full system brake flush done. Simple. The only way i could see air being pumped back into the system is either you don't have a hose and bottle on the bleeder or you let the master run dry.

Well after two reservoir flushes the brake pedal feels a lot more responsive and solid. That noise i could hear is now barely audible. I did take it to the local brake specialists but neither of the two mechanics could hear the noise i was describing. Told them i'd book it in so they could have a good go at looking and listening to the brakes but haven't done so yet because the brakes are feeling a lot better and that noise is now almost none existent.

I used to change the brake fluid on my VN and still do it on our N15 Pulsar but with my VY I just take it to a reliable mechanic I know every 2 years and it costs about $50 to $55 which is not much more than I can buy the brake fluid for and it takes them about 30 minutes or less. I generally like to do things myself if I can but I just get this done on the VY now. All the other servicing including the auto I do myself.
