hi ive herd the brake light switch and cruise control switch (on brake pedal) controls if your auto converter locks up or not is this true? like if mine was faulty could it cause the tcc to not lock? i got cruis control but also have the other brake switch installed aswell as the cruise controll one, should i only have the one?\ just trying to see if this is causeing my tcc problems also brake lights work fine as they should lol cheers
No, the brake light switch has nothing to do with the TCC. All it does is make the brake lights work and deactivate the cruise. You probably have a faulty TCC lockup solenoid. Common problem.
I don't doubt that you are correct NAAF, but many yank sites say the one test of unlocking the TCC on the 4L60E is to touch the brakes. It seems to make sense that it would disengage it because if the brakes locked the rear wheels there would still be be a solid connection from the rear wheel (stationary) and the engine which is rotating at speed with the TCC engaged.
The reason it says to do that is change the vehicle's speed, this unlocks the TCC, not the actual application of the brakes.
Re brake switch - looks like it only applies to older models of 4L60/E as I found this on a yank forum: Well, I checked the TCC solenoid and it wasn't cracked, so I am going to look at the brake switches tomorrow. My Haynes 99-2006 manual shows a brake wire going to the computer. My friend who owns a trans shop in another state said the brake switch is a thing of the past on the 05, but we will see. Thanks for the tip. So that seems to indicate it was deleted somewhere along the line.
There you go, but a lot of US cars have weird set ups compared to Aus. Or is it the other way around?...
thanks guys, i didnt think it was connected with the tcc but as hako said allot of the US forums say this when they have trouble with the tcc anyway cheers for all this
