Hey all, got old mate to replace my brake pads front and back on my VT. Got in it yesterday and noticed that the brakes go almost to the floor before working and the handbrake light stay's on? Has old mate just forgot a step in the process somewhere??

sounds like he hasn't gotten the air out of the brake lines properly

I suggest you get "old mate" to fix his stuffup. Bit hard to suggest something if we dont really know what he did.

Sounds like time for a new master cylinder if bleeding the brakes does not restore the pedal.

oh and if old mate returned the car to you in that condition he is not a mechanics arsehole and should be shot.

The brake light could be a sticky handbrake switch, if u take off the rubber surround on the handbrake u should see a little square black button its located near the big bolts that secure the handbrake, try and push the switch up and down to see if the light goes off

Handbrake light could be the brake fail switch not reset in the master cylinder.

Did he remove some of the fluid from the master cylinder before he pushed the pistons back?
If not, there is probably s### loads of brake fluid in your engine bay and none in the brake lines.

I suggest you watch "old mate" repair this fault.... At gun point. As your life was just put on the line.

Do things right the first time. Strange how "old mate" would have bed the new pads (IF), and he didn't realise the soft pedal.

Jeez, its not a big job to change pads. "old mate" obviously did something he shouldnt have.
There has to be more to this story me thinks.
