I Hope someone can help me out here? I installed some second hand hubs and new pads today, regreased the the pins on the callipers. anyway after the installation (we have since removed and double checked everything because of this issue) the brake pedal is pulsating back against me, heating up like a mofo and making funny noises. Me and a good mate put it all together a job he has done a few times and it's nothing too unfamiler to me. The ABS OFF light came on, on my way home and then it seemed to stop, im going to take the ABS fuse out for diagnostic purposes only, if it works perfectly i know its the sensors, so ill then try to clean thema dn reinstall the fuse, otherwise its back to the old front hubs. Any advise before i start?
I'd say 99% for sure that you've installed the wrong front hubs - they are different for solid and independent rear ends - colour is different - one is grey and the other is black. The wrong hub will have the wrong number of teeth on the ABS ring and the ABS controller thinks the wheels are locked/locking.
they asked if it was live axle or not, which i told them it is (it is too) i pulled the ABS fuse out to test and it works perfectly without, i know this will cause some upset but the car doesn't bloody stop witht eh ABS fuse in so untill I can get it back to MY home (im at the girlfriends now) i will have to leave it out so the car actually stops, i'll then need to switch the hubs back over. I'm going to try cleaning the sensors now just in case. Thank you for the advise so far everyone, oh and no the rotars are good.
Double check the colour of the plastic ABS unit on each front hub - they *must* be black for a solid rear end. Most wreckers are unaware that they are different...believe it or not!
hehehe the first post just said make sure it is black not grey, i was like WTF? they both look the same, so I was pulling it all off to put my old setup back in and low and behold.... The plastic inside where the ABS sensor is, that is the different colored part, swapped that one over and all is good again. So much hassel over something so simple. Thank you everyone for your help, it's an easy job tbh onnce youve done it 4 times or so in one weekend To the wreckers credit they did know the difference and just made a silly mistake, they also provided credit back for that hub (I cbf changing it AGAIN! and im used to it sounding like I have guinie pigs under the front fender now)

You are not the only one to get caught out with this one!!!!
glad to hear it, well i'm all the wiser now, tbh I should have charged the wrecker for a new pair of dacks, I just about crapped myself when the brakes refused to respond, well the pedal responded by fighting back but the car wasn't stopping any time soon.
It is. I had my brakes fail going down a small hill about 25 meters from reasonably busy intersection. Lucky my handbrake worked.
I think I need to tighten my handbrake, tbh the shoes probably need replacing anyway, they are more then likely the origional GMH ones, which technically should pretty well last the life of the car, but you never know.
very nice, so ifi tighten the cabel as per my gregory's manaul instructions i should be fine? I think in the time i have had the car I went maybe 20 meters or less with the handbrake on (the light and chime switch wire came off and I was dumb plus it was dark)
Yes, if you adjust the handbrake cable and shoes properly you should be fine (I have a Haynes manual not a Gregories manual so I cant comment on their process).
