well u wont be able to visually 'see' if the rotors are out of whack just with plain eyesight- its known that they can flex under serious braking forces, even if they are still within spec and cause a shudder(but this is mainly in track applications with larger, lesser quality, aftermarket rotors). so chances are, if theyre standard, they need machining if its just the steering wheel pulsing

normally a shudder through the steering wheel at lower speeds, indicates the front rotors need machining...at higher speeds, it may not be as apparent through the steering wheel, but you should still feel it...if its the rear wheels aswell, u will feel pulsing through the pedal

Not entirely correct.....If the steering wheel shudders or wobbles under braking, it's not a wheel balance issue, nor suspension issue......It's the front rotors....If the steering wheel wobbles under normal driving, then it's a balance issue...

If the brake pedal pulses under braking, the rear rotors are too blame

not entirely correct .... if the brake pedal pulsates under braking it is more likely to be the front rotors as 70% of braking force is on the front rotors , dont nitpick my replies i am a qualified backyard mechanic .... ha ha.....cheers.

Yeah buy vc commodore is a tyre specialist/mechanic so who's more qualified?

I vote we put you both in a ring and the one who comes out alive wins.

Not worth putting you in the ring, as you're already dead.....Besides, you have no idea what my qualifications are, so stick your nose out

If this was the case, what causes steering wheel shuddering under braking?

Also using this "theory", why does brake pedal height come from the rear brakes, especially with drum brakes?

And yes most braking force comes from the fronts....

Look forward to hear your qualified back yard advice

Is that a threat???

Wow, you couldn't have been more of a dick it you tried.
I could not give a **** about your qualifications, you make out like you are THE tyre specialist on this forum & anybody else's opinion is irrelevant but yours when it comes to tyres, hence my comment.

If you cant take a joke, get off the internet, otherwise you might have a heart attack or stroke & we clearly wouldn't want for you to have one of those ;)

Yes....Goes to show how helpful I am? Was I not the forst person to ask some questions in this thread to get a clearer picture as to exactly what that OP's problems were? Was my post cocky in anyway?
If so please people, tell me!

You on the other hand have come across as a know it all and have implied that everybody else's suggestion is wrong & only your suggestion is right.

Please continue to tell everybody that 100% the OP's problem is due to what you think.
There are many factors that could be causing very similar symptoms to warped rotors, but you have clearly seen the OP's car and know everything about it.

The OP can only tell us what they think the car is doing & how bad they think the car is performing/handling, this might be significantly different to what you or myself would consider as being a problem.

This is why asking for help diagnosing a problem on the internet is usually a waste of time.

vy commodores dont have drum brakes , apart from the handbrake shoe assembly which does not operate from the footbrake. just remember "vc commodore" we can all contribute to this forum and my point still is , warped front rotors show up with pulsating thru the footbrake when footbrake is applied. there would have to be something seriusly wrong with the front end to make the steering wheel shake when applying the footbrake. lets all try to get along.......cheers again.
