My dad posed a question to me the other day over the phone which I can't answer myself.

    He owns a 2002 WH LS1.

    My sister owns a 2002 VX S pack V6.

Dad drove the VX the other day and noticed the brakes on the two cars are worlds apart. The VX's brakes feel very much more responsive and capable than the WH's. Surely this cannot be solely because of the weight of the car - there isn't that much difference in it.

What differences are there between these two setups? Is there a particular part or two I could pilfer off another model next time I'm in Perth to sharpen it up a bit for him? Thinking along the lines of the VY V6 master cylinder that's doing such a great job on the 330s on my VN.

    Any info appreciated.

As far as I know there is no difference. Maybe just the pads make a difference.

When you say 'a 2002 WH'. Is that a stato? caprice? It's the trim level that makes the difference and on some models bigger brakes are options.

The poor brake performance could be worn out pads or perished suspension bushes. Having driven the short and long wheel base (both with standard brakes) I didn't feel all that much difference but the extra weight was noticeable.

Most definitive way to tell is to take off a front wheel from each and compare.

    Interesting.

I'd have a look at the two side by side but I'm on the other side of the country.

It's a Statesman, I forgot that would probably be important.

Get your dad to check the brake pads and disk aren't worn down or anything.

Im assuming your sister bought the VX second hand yeah? Maybe the previous owner upgraded it to slotted rotters and better brake pads.

Just get him to have a look at those things.

Brakes are fine, I have driven them both myself before and they've just always been like this.

Prior upgrades are a long shot but possible. Both cars were bone stock when purchased, neither has slotteds or anything like that.

Honestly I was expecting a very simple answer, like maybe a changed booster/mcyl or something like that. Seems it's nothing so straightforward :)
