Brake Upgrade

I am thinking about getting some new brakes for my VL.
I am thinking about getting a kit that includes a 296mm slotted rotors, twin piston calipers (VT calipers). comes with new bearings, pads, lines and adapter plate... $600

i will install them myself
what are some thoughts and opinions?

also, anyone got an idea on the cost to get somethign powdercoated, say a caliper?

Very good value for money. Good upgrade. Not sure about cost of powdercoating but you could just spray it with some caliper paint. Do it before you bolt the caliper on. Do you need to upgrade the master cylinder?

no you dont need to upgrade the master cylinder, thats what i was told anyway but probably adviseable, i'd say.

i would invest in the setup on a r8

bit of money but worth it!

nice big calipers and some nice drilled and slotted rotors

have fun getting the old rotors off
that can be an absolute bitch sometimes, get a rubber mallet or a hammer wrapped in a towel because they'll probably be rusted on tight.
as for the calipers just use high temp paint and spray em with that, easy.

well its $40 to get a rim powder coated so i think 2 calipers wouldnt be a great deal more than that

fit a 1" master cylinder while your at it, it'll give a slightly better pedal feel. good price for the VT upgrade. some VHT caliper paint should do the trick nicely, never had anything powder coated before:thumbsup:

Why would you spend money on an upgrade to still stay with piss poor brakes?

The minimum you should go is 343 fronts

its a VL minux, not the 1 1/2 tonne plus car you might be used to.
it doesnt need brakes that big, and the rims wouldnt allow it anyway.

err ok, if you want to stop well, then bigger is better, you can never have too big a brake setup, i am sure if he was to spend money on brakes a set of 18's min wouldnt be too far off the cards.
