Hey guys im about to change the brakes on a vx, was just wondering weather i have to or should change the brake fluid? Im fitting new pads and rotors front and rear and not sure if i have to bleed the brakes before or after the change? And also how exactly is the best way for 1 person to do it?

Have seen someone use a squirt bottle trigger to bleed the brakes by themselves. (On youtube). Sounds iffy but if a clear tube is used with a pipe spanner, you can see the air in the line a little to get an idea if its working.

There are other methods and some are on the Tube.

Always good to bleed the brakes.

Don't let that reservoir run dry! ABS is not going to get bled without tech equipment involved. Keep it full and you'll be fine.

Bleed after the change because as you push the brake pistons in, the fluid will go up in the reservoir. Keep an eye on that.

There should be no need to bleed the brakes when changing pads, unless you get air into the system.

True, but if someone is keen to bleed the brakes, its a good idea.

How would air get into the system? Can it happend due to the change?
If the fluid level in the master cylinder gets too low (empty) air will get into the system.

Sounds like you mean brake fluid flush, rather than bleed? If thats the case crack a bleeder one by one and let the fluid run out for 10mins each rear and 3mins each front. Keep the fluid topped up. This way gets most if the old fluid out and you won't need bleeding tools, just a spanner and hose.

They say you should crack the nipple before pushing back the brake cylinders to stop fluid from going back up the line doing damage to your ABS, I never do and never had a issue. How long since the fluid been flushed? 20 bucks for 2 bottles of dot 4 just get it in a different colour so you know when it turns up and made its way through the line.
