Hey guys recently sprayed my calipers and rotors, sanded down the rotors so no surface rust and glaze with a 120 grit sandpaper. Now I've got really loud grinding in the rear on the pads, horrible sound and when I'm slowly rolling at 5kmh I can hear it grinding too.. Solutions!?

Stop doing work to your car ?

But seriously , you sanded the surface where your pads actually grab ?

    try bedding them in again.

I would hope ya didnt sand them down so to speak. but rather 'roughed up the surface a little'

did it squeal or grind at all before u did this work?

I'd suggest getting them machined properly it doesn't cost that much:surprise:

You will probably have to replace the pads given they now have paint melted to them if you didn't mask up your discs before painting.

Yes I did sand the surface of where they grab, no they didn't do this before and I masked tediously up all areas before spraying, mayb I roughed up the surface too much...

If I take them off and get a 400 grit paper to them n smooth it off more will it help? Also will a smooth off of the brake pads surface help?

Remembering I did the fronts the same and they're fine..

Good lord. Take it to a brake place and get them to have a look. No offence but you obviously don't know what your doing.

Maybe have a look to see if you put a pad in backwards

Was it just a light sand? Why did u sand the face of the rotor?

Nooo... stop sanding the damn things. The damage is done.

Read this thread, the last page or so in particular:
    http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/general/195169-using-sandpaper-roughen-up-brake-rotors.html

In your case, take the rear apart and make sure there isn't any crap on the rotor or pad surface. Make sure it's all in the correct way and see how you go.

If you are still getting an issue, take it to a brake place.

What is with people sanding rotors lately??

Was just taking surface glaze off jester. Just bought new rotors and pads and found if put a pad on backwards... That's wat caused the problem.. Accidental mistake

While everyone's all knowledgable on the subject, can I use htb high temp bearing grease on the pin guide? Looks like it could use some, the piece I speak of is what the caliper swings on when u crack one of the nuts to remove the pads, seems tad dry. Htb suitable?

Make sure to adjust the handbrake too. Adjust it so you can just hear the handbrake shoes rubbing the inside of the rotor without too much resistance
