2008 VE SS Manual Sportswagon
I am ready to go to upgrade my VE SS Sportswagon to the Redline Brembo package. I have all the parts and had the thought that maybe ACT RTA may deem it illegal even though it comes factory fitted to the SSV-Redline.

So I contacted a company here about it and he told me that it needs to be inspected by him (engineer) and certified as being safe then I am covered. He quoted $550 just the inspection and test. I was gob smacked.

Have any of you ever come across this or is this a bunch of crap/money grab?

Adds another cost factor to the upgrade so now wondering if it is even worth it.

Basically you are asking someone if he thinks you should give him $500.
Technically he's right, but if it's std brembo front only as per Redline then you should be fine as long as you don't drive like they wanna pinch you for something.
What's the difference between yours and a Redline anyway? Call it a Redline, like I did. If your sportwagon is before MY12.5 then is only the front brakes, compliance plate does differentiate on suspension.

My SS is a 2008 model and all I'm doing is upgrading the front breaks and putting on Redline 19inch wheels..

I guess i'm asking if any locals had to go through the same thing.

In that case the loophole is closed, sorry, as Redline was introduced with Series II.
There is a thread with full details about eligibility and testing methods.

Cool. I've been looking through the forum and haven't found anything directly related to ACT rules.

Just think of ACT as a department of NSW... where we keep most of the public servants. Same same ;)

Just got off the phone with a fellow from ACT RTA Technical Standards and he tells me that if the breaks were a factory option on the VE commodore and bolts up to existing struts without modifications then they are legal and don't need to be certified.
He also said that if anyone wants to read more into the national Code of Practice regarding modifications to motor vehicals then the code is VSB14. It apparently describes everything.

Anyway, good news then.
