A whole new tin of worms to open up hey mate? lol..Let's hope it doesn't turn into the P plate fiasco. Should be no V8's till 30 or 40, hell let's BAN V8's period! I agree on most points put there, but when does it stop? P.B said the key word - EDUCATION! knowledge is power!

    Humbly disagree.

Actually, IMHO opinion knowledge is only step 1. Knowledge is only useful if it leads to understanding and wisdom.

Knowledge without the understanding and wisdom to apply it can be more dangerous than ignorance. Please note that I said "CAN BE", and not is.

My first car when I was 16 was a V8 holden ute. That was 20 years ago & still no accident. This is another one of those crap rules that ties every person to a small minority of idiots. Why dont they just put a speed limiter device to the vehicle set to 110 & be done with it.

    Yeah, I'm a shitstirrer...
    Too true.

Governments won't do it though. Better to keep the populace dumb & scared instead of intelligent & empowered...

Way i see it, make things like the government is enforcing on the transport industry. Soon, you wont be allowed to run mass management without running an IAP device. Same should go for new drivers, lets monitor their habits(shouldnt be any problem seeing as all new drivers here seem tho think P platers are all perfect).

There is a load of things to be done, the only thing that will stop idiots is to keep them out of cars...which is impossible to do.

The most common road death in the N.T. is tourists who jump into a 4WD, see the open speed limit & attempt to travel at high speed. Most end up on the roof.
I know of an ex cop from England who had done all the driving courses including the ice driving on skidpans. He only got 20Ks down an unsealed road & ended upside down.
To me speed not power is the major problem on the road, experience may lower the risk but it is the unforeseen that causes the accident.
However on this forum it seems that when you turn into a fully licensed driver that suddenly all that experience goes out the window. Maybe I better regress 20 years & put my "p" plates back on for the good of humanity.

same can be said for older drivers, i mean nothings being done about the senile. Nobody is a wonderful driver no matter how long they've been driving for, u can always learn a thing or two. Wen i get my full licence i'm still going to apply for those courses for advanced driving and defensive driving etc.
altho i do agree with them on some points u cannot just put a blanket ban and hope for the best. Naming a 25 year old full licenced driver can be exact said about anyone whos 30 or 40, they still have the ability to go 270km/h, it depends on the person not the car

altho i may be missing the point and i'm thoroughly confusing myself, i still stand corrected

Because speed capping cars would mean less money from speed cameras on freeways ;)

The problem really isnt the V8's speed. Its the power output it can generate. That being said, all cars can be modified to have too much power for someone learning to drive.

I still stand by what i have always wanted, and thats stage licensing. Where you must earn the rights to drive bigger, better and faster cars.

Ive done around 6 different driving courses, defensive advanced, attacking et. It is really worth the money, especially with savings you can make on insurance

Why is it that when people are fined it is only for revenue raising?
I would like to compare how much money is raised from speeding fines etc & compare it to how much money is spent on the victims of road trauma & there families. I think you will find that the fines dont cover it.
Back to the subject. I wonder if you get an energy polariser it will exempt you from this rule.Or will the increase in power make your car illegal.

    Well said from both parties.

probly find that 99% of p platers who want/do drive responsibly don't have big high performance machines anyway.

    no offence intended of course.

Using age as a gauge for when you are able to drive a modified or high performance vehicle is stupid.
I agree in having poor drivers banned from driving the above vehicles, not P platers in general.
There should be two catergories of licensing for all drivers no matter what there age. The second would require the completion of a set amount of courses, covering selected course studies.
Also all drivers would be required to sit for there license every 10 years and 5 years on the modified vehicles licenses.
The way I see it you need a different license to drive different classes of vehicles, same for modified or performance cars.

I noticed a trend happening :whistling.

Points to the person's idea of speed limited 110, BUT as always people will find a way to remove it, and whoever said about no money from speed cameras now that couldn't be any more truer. All the Government sees is profit. But I'd love to see it thou, the Pollies will have to take a pay-cut. Yeah right!!!!!!!!!!!

    Fekason....Well said!

10 years? personally i think it should be yearly. The amount of drivers out there who's abilities deteriorate shouldn't be on the roads, 10 years is leaving it way too open. Also the testing should be the same across the board. my Parents took the local cop for a drive around the block, and now they think they can drive, which in fact they cannot.

And of course people will complain about the cost of doing a license test every year, but to me its cheap insurance, keeping those old senile drivers away from my car.

People use age groups simply because an 18 year old fresh with his licence shouldnt be driving a 300kw car. However by the tiem your 21 you have earned it. If the laws come in i'd hope it'd go across the board, where even myself would have to sit a test and pass a control test to get my higher grade licence. Not everything is about you platers you know?

not necessarily i mean it really depends on how the driver has behaved, i mean i behave more mature than most of the 21 year olds i see driving around. just coz u've been on ur licence (no matter wat level) for how many years doesn't mean u've earned anything, just means thats u've been driving longer, not that u have more experience.

It's hard to test peoples normal patterns of driving and attitudes as well as behaviour towards road rules, I mean people can easily flick the good driving/hoon driving switch whenever they want when they know they have to do test, it's like an exam, anyone can study up for it, doesn't mean they have the mental ability to learn things but remember and retain information better than others.

    Stage Lisencing,
I like that idea! Never heard it befor. Is that what Peter Brock said? Or NO to under 25s?
Driver course type liscening for performance car ownership makes undeniable sence (to me).
Except then its the same ole' problem. Under 25s are invinsible! (i was) What happens when u give them a license to prove it!
and that brings the idiots back as the problem i guess. Maybe its just their destiny.
I just lost my VH to a "parking accident"! If I was on the road i could hav avoided the idiot! I hope that was his lesson, me standing on the roof of my loss and scrreming at his stupidity!
As for the knowledge is power and driving course education. Have you ever had a good teacher? It can be life changing. Better to give oportunity a chance. Maybe cams can fine the V8supercars drivers with comunity service time. how cool would it be spending laps with craig lownes cause' he cut skafe off that last race. OK, silly idea :-| Good education is the key.
Oh, and banning stuff? takes all the fun outa life. Bring back fire crackers!

Stage licencing wont work, nor willd river training. Sure it teaches you how to handle a car which is high powered or you loose control of but that still doesnt stop people hooning and speeding and being compelte idiots. The type of car doesnt stop this, no matter what laws, bans or restrictions you use you cant stop them.

As mentioned anyone can act normal for a test then do the complete opposite once they have their licence (p platers).

It comes down to the person, not the car. Training might help but wont prevent.
