Just wondering wats the best way 2 repair broken bars on the rear window demist? i have 3 and have located the breaks looks like the calais had tint on 1nc b4 and they have broken wen the old tint was taken off. now im lookin 2 get the car tinted in the next week or so, so lookin 4 a fix b4 that gets dun.

Tried some repair kit from repco but didnt work, was thinkin just soldering a thin strip of solder along the breaks but im wondering if the solder will eva get ne corrsion or somthing years down the track and then fail again? or will the tint get ne sorta bubbles from this? is there somthing better 2 try?

I have a similar problem... My VN has only 6 bars working... Is there anything I can do about it or is it time for a new rear window?? :s
Are they expensive? I want to get the car tinted through work but there's no point if the demister doesn't work.... **grumbles**

you tried fixing it over top of the tint? of course the repair kit wont work ontop of tint. you will have to rip the tint off and apply the repair stuff, unless you intend to melt through the tint to solder it.

no the old tint was ripped off thats how they got broken in the 1st place i suspect. i found the breaks using a test light so theres definatly no tint there

Good idea tho i'll give this a go thanx man and it dries quick thats wat i need. in the repair kit i got took 2 long 2 dry i think mayb thats y it didnt work and over nite it may have ran away from the tracks not sure but it was messy neways lol. just had a look on jaycars site they have the same pen 10bucks cheaper so might go see them.

my only concern would b how hot would the demisters get wen they r operating says operating temperatures can b used up 2 205 degrees surely they dont get that hot tho

Personally wouldnt bother with the conductive pen. They are messy enough on PCB, would be a nightmare on glass. I recall seeing some little repair kit specifically aimed at the demister. Dont think anyone would have a chance trying to solder it. My guess is a replacement of the rear windscreen is probably most workable solution, if you really find that you need it. There is that liquid product out there that is meant to demist the windscreen. Its promoted for windscreen but no reason why it wont work on rear windscreen. Comes in something like a 150mL bottle for about $12.

how quick does it set tho? i think the prob with the other kit i had from repco was that it wouldnt set quick enough and with the slope on the windscreen it would slowly run b4 it had time 2 dry see i understand wat ur sayin with the pen but at this stage it says it drys quick but ofcorse if this bottle can do the same job with a better result im happy 2 hear wat its called?

The pen comes out as a thin paste, it wouldnt drip or run, but its fairly thick and messy and would probably come off in the sun. If you ever washed the window with a towel it would rub off.

well its gettin tint put over the top after its fixed the problem so im hoping that will protect it from being wiped away i just used some of the pen stuff and it seems 2 b workin good so far dried in 10 mins just waitin 45mins 4 it 2 set fully b4 i test it will let u know how it goes. didnt end up bein messy i masked off the bars so ne messy spills or wateva came straight off with the tape.

used them this morning and they worked a treat cant complain with it just yet but im curious if left exposed after a while if it will creat ne corrosion or wat not on them? hopefully the tint will seal them up n take that problem away

If anyone is worried about it dripping or making a crappy looking line, just mask it up like if you were painting pin stripes...

Its hard to say without someone testing it long term. I wouldnt think that you would have a problem as it would be designed to last on a PCB. However sealing it under tint could make it react with something it the layer of glue or the moisture in the glue could cause it to corrode. Just throwing up ideas, you might be lucky and it will serve you without problem for the next 10 years.

yer i see where ur coming from its funny tho u say that but it also says this stuff can b resoldered at low tempretures that bein said where does the glue come into play wen it sets again? ud think it would b 2 dry or if nething burnt away from the soldering iron?
